Special Constabulary Awards Ceremony
The successes of officers and teams within Surrey Special Constabulary were celebrated at their annual awards ceremony on Tuesday, 7 February 2012.
Special of the Year
The accolade of Special of the Year went to Acting/S/Chief Inspector Martyn Dix
for his contribution to Neighbourhood Policing in Waverley. Martyn's commitment
to his role is exceptional. Although in a senior supervisory role he still manages
to perform a considerable number of operational shifts and has achieved some fantastic
results. Martyn's quick thinking, for example, led to the arrest and subsequent
charging of a man who had carried out a knife point robbery at a petrol station.
He has been extremely proactive around borough priorities, helping to devise and run Operation Weston - a cross-border operation with Hampshire and Sussex to tackle overnight shed breaks and rural crime. Acting S/Inspector Warren Carter and S/Inspector Ken Iredale, who were placed joint second for Special of The Year, were awarded Highly Commended certificates.
Team of the Year
The Woking Borough Neighbourhood Team won this award for their excellent teamwork
and impressive operational record. They are seen as an integral part of the Woking
Safer Neighbourhood Team, regularly assisting on operations and warrants. They have
made a fantastic contribution to policing in the Borough including: two ANPR Operations,
16 town centre violence operations, three warrants and 10 DriveSMART operations
within the last year.
During 2011, the team completed an astonishing 1,224 duties, equating to 9,159 hours. They made 61 arrests and assisted with 110. Between them, they attended 1,601 ICAD incidents, issued 62 Fixed Penalty Notices, seized six vehicles and reported 107 crimes.
Certificates of nomination also went to the Epsom, Guildford, Reigate & Banstead, Runnymede, Surrey Heath and Tandridge Neighbourhood Teams and the Specials Tasking Unit.
Chief Officer's Commendation
SC Dave McLean earned a Chief Officer's Commendation for his dedication to the role
and the invaluable support he provides to other members of the Specials team. There
is no incident, major or minor, that Dave will not offer to attend.
He has received numerous good work and appreciative emails, has given more than 720 hours to the Force and made 10 arrests over the past year. Even on holiday, he is never off duty - While in the USA, Dave performed CPR when he spotted a member of the public in need and has been commended for his actions by Las Vegas paramedics.
