Police are seeking help in locating stolen laptops in Guildford
Detectives in Guildford are appealing for help from members of the public to help officers find outlets where stolen laptops may be being sold on.
The call follows a number of offences in the Guildford area in which thieves have broken into properties during daylight hours and stolen portable electrical hardware. The most recent offence happened yesterday (Wednesday, 28 July) when a detached house in Wood Street was targeted sometime between 10am and 6.45pm. Intruders got into the building via a back door and searched the dining room. A Sony laptop, worth £1500 was stolen, together with a Panasonic video camera valued at £1000, a Canon digital camera worth £200 and a Nokia mobile phone.
Computer equipment was taken in a raid on a property in the Stoughton Road area on the previous Wednesday (21 July) when a glass window pane was smashed and offenders managed to unlock an inner door to gain entry. The entire house was searched and thirteen items were stolen, including a Toshiba laptop and an Acer computer, Nintendo hand held consoles and a digital camera. The total haul is valued at more than £4,200.
DI Karen Hughes investigating said: “Firstly I want to make residents aware that there are a number of daytime burglaries happening across the borough and that they should be ensuring that they lock all windows and doors in the current warm spell.
“But most importantly I am appealing for help from the community in finding out where these stolen computer and electrical items are being sold. If someone offers you such an item for sale in an unusual location or, as a trader, you are being offered goods such as these to buy I want to hear from you. Hopefully by sharing such information there might be a vital clue which could help officers bring these offenders to justice.”
