Officers from Ripley, Guildford and Ash gave security advice

With the school summer holidays now in full swing, Guildford borough residents were able to learn first-hand from police officers how they can protect their homes while they are away as part of a special event last weekend.

Members of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams from Ripley, Guildford and Ash, visited shopping parades throughout the area as part of the Guildford Borough Day last Saturday (24 July), giving home security advice and handing out Surrey Police crime reduction packs.

Crime Reduction Advisor for the Guildford Borough, PC Steve Cake, said: "The last thing anybody wants on returning home from holiday is to find that they have been the victim of a burglary. This borough day gave us the opportunity to get out and speak face-to-face with local residents and help ensure that they leave their homes secure while away this summer."

As well as advising residents on home security, the officers were also reinforcing the need to secure bicycles when unattended, both at home and in public areas, following an increase in bike thefts over the last few weeks. An interactive sign displaying cycle security messages has recently been used outside Kings College, Christ‘s College and George Abbot School and was on display on Saturday outside the Tesco supermarket in Egerton Road.
