Police appeal for witnesses following Chertsey road traffic collision

‘Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision on the A320 Staines Road at Chertsey.

Police were called by the ambulance service shortly before midnight on Tuesday July 27 to reports of a single-vehicle road traffic collision involving a black Vauxhall Corsa travelling north on the Staines Road.

The car was close to the entrance for Thorpe Park when it left the road and collided with two pedestrians, ending up in a ditch at the roadside. The occupant or occupants of the car have then decamped and abandoned the vehicle.

The two pedestrians were taken to St Peter’s Hospital at Chertsey where they remain and both are in a serious but stable condition.

Surrey Police deployed resources including a dog unit and a police helicopter to try and trace the occupant or occupants of the vehicle but they currently remain outstanding.

Police closed the A320 between the junction with St Ann’s Road and the entrance to Thorpe Park for several hours while the investigation continued but the road has now been fully reopened.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who was in the area during the evening and believes they have seen the vehicle involved or a similar car prior to the collision is being urged to call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.’
