Man charged with bookmakers robberies
A 38-year-old Brighton man has been remanded in custody following a series of robberies at bookmakers in Horley, Leatherhead and Bookham.
Peter Lovey, of Lincoln Road, appeared at South East Surrey Magistrates Court on Saturday, 6 March, charged with two counts of robbery and one of attempted theft.
The charges relate to robberies at Bet Fred bookmakers in Victoria Road, Horley, and Kingston Road, Leatherhead, on Monday, 15 February, and Thursday, 11 February. And an attempted theft at William Hill betting shop on Church Road, Bookham.
CCTV images were released to the media of a man wanted in connection with these offences.
Senior investigating officer, acting Detective Inspector Tony Giles said: “I would like to thank the media for their assistance with this investigation. Following the release of the CCTV images we received numerous calls from members of the public providing additional information.
“Officers have worked tirelessly to bring about this swift arrest and charge and I hope the communities in Horley, Bookham and Leatherhead are reassured by our actions. Surrey Police will always take action to bring offenders of crime to justice.”
