Surrey response to London blasts
Submitted: 07/07/2005 15:43:05
Emergency services and councils across Surrey have responded rapidly to the series of terrorist attacks that have taken place in London.
A major incident has been declared in Surrey because of the knock-on implications for transport out of London and the possibility of missing persons from Surrey.
A multi-agency Gold management Group has been set up at Surrey Police HQ at Mount Browne that includes Surrey County Council, Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue, Surrey Ambulance Service and the National Health Service. This group will strategically manage the Surrey response to the incident.
All the Surrey emergency services are considering what mutual aid they can offer to emergency services in London. Surrey Ambulance Service has already sent staff and vehicles at the request of the London Ambulance service.
Extra police officers are being sent to Surrey British Rail stations to deal with the large number of commuters expected later in the day. They will also be available to take any witness statements from commuters who may have seen something suspicious earlier today.
The Metropolitan Police Service has set up a Casualty Bureau for anyone who has information about relatives missing in London. The telephone number is: 0870 1566 344.
Call 0845 125 2222 for all non-emergency policing matters.
Call 999 if you have a genuine emergency requiring the attendance of the police (eg a crime is in progress or someone is in immediate danger).
Call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you have information about crime and don't want to leave your name.
