The thief got away with hundreds of pounds.
A lone pedestrian walking along a footpath on a Farncombe housing estate on Tuesday, 2 February has been robbed of cash.
The 32-year-old victim was on her way into the village at around 10.35am when she was approached by the suspect on the track. She was going through the wooded area between Northbourne and Long Gore when the incident happened. The offender grabbed a bag from her shoulder and as a result a struggle ensued between the pair.
The suspect broke free and pulled the bag from the victim’s arm and ran off down the path. The thief got away with hundreds of pounds belonging to a local charitable organisation and personal funds from the victim. The stolen money and a bank book were carried in a holdall.
The suspect is described as a white man, 5ft 7” tall, aged between late teens and mid twenties and of a slim build. He was clean shaven and had a pale complexion. He was wearing a white baseball cap which had a black stitched logo on its front – possibly a New York Yankees emblem. He wore a waist length green army style jacket which had a stitched badge, which appeared to be of wings, on the left arm.
DC Russ Cannon investigating said: “This was a frightening offence for the victim who was just going about her everyday business in broad daylight. I hope someone will recognise the distinctive clothing detailed in the suspect description and would urge anyone with information relating to this individual to contact officers as soon as possible.”
Neighbourhood Specialist Officer Jim Lavery said: “This is an unusual incident which happened within a large residential area and I would like to reassure the public that we will be doing everything possible to find this person and bring him to justice. I would encourage people using the footpaths which cross the estate to make sure that they are vigilant to their own personal safety when walking in secluded areas. Walkers should use well lit paths and keep an eye and ear out to their surroundings. If they see anything or anyone acting suspiciously the public should report it to the police.
