West Surrey Police is asking members of the public if they recognise this man following a robbery in which a bus driver in the Witley area was attacked.
The incident happened on Tuesday (2 February) evening at 7.25pm when the number 71 bus was on its route from Godalming. The offender got on at Eashing Lane and sat at the back of the bus. He rang the bell to get off and went to the front to ask the driver to stop just before the Petworth Road. As the bus came to a halt on New Road the offender went to grab the cash tin which then fell to the ground. The driver attempted to stop the thief but was punched in the face.
The suspect made his escape down New Road in the direction of Witley and got away with £140 in cash.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who has any information which could help lead officers to locate the offender and bring him to justice.
DC Lee Hazell said: “This individual launched an unprovoked attack on a bus driver who was carrying out his usual daily work driving passengers around the neighbourhood. It is incredible that the offender has brazenly sat on the bus before launching his assault and I want anyone who might have any information relating to the suspect to call officers as soon as possible. Surrey Police will not tolerate this type of violence in our communities and will do everything possible to prevent this criminal offending again.”
The suspect is described as a white man, 6ft tall and with short cropped hair which looks a dyed yellowy blonde. He has a gaunt drawn face, with a pale complexion and spotty skin, with scars from acne. He was wearing a dark blue hooded top which had McKenzies written across the chest in white and a short black puffa jacket. He wore pale blue jeans which had a hole on the right knee and clean white Adidas trainers with three thin black stripes on each side. The offender spoke with what is described as a southern ‘chavvy’ accent.
