Man arrested following criminal damage to cars in Warlingham

An unemployed man has been arrested after a number of cars were damaged in Warlingham on Wednesday evening (3 February).

Local Neighbourhood Specialist Officer PC Martin Bassom was patrolling the area at about 8.30pm when he received a report that wing-mirrors were being kicked off cars parked in Limpsfield Road.

PC Bassom immediately deployed to the scene and saw two cars had been damaged. He arrested a man on suspicion of causing criminal damage and also on suspicion of stealing two bottles of gin and 24 cans of lager from nearby Sainsbury’s.

PC Bassom said: “Damaging cars in this way is just a mindless act of vandalism to innocent people’s property. I’m hopeful more witnesses will come forward so we can ensure justice is done.

“As a local Safer Neighbourhood Team we are determined to crackdown on criminal damage and those who break the law. I was able to quickly deploy to this incident and I hope our swift action and rapid arrest reassures the community that Surrey Police takes your concerns very seriously.”

A 21-year-old man from Warlingham has been released on police bail until 16 March pending further enquiries.
