Esher teenager issued with five year ASBO
A 17-year-old boy from Esher has been issued with a five year Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) following a successful application by Surrey Police last week.
Michael Connery, 17, of Joseph Locke Way was handed the ASBO at a North Surrey Magistrates Court hearing on Wednesday 27 January.
Under the conditions of the ASBO Connery is prohibited from:
1) Acting in a manner that causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to any person in Surrey, or encourage others to do so.
2) Not to contact a number of named individuals either directly or indirectly by any means. This includes telephone, text message, personal visits, email or third party visits.
3) Being away from his home address between 8pm and 6am for the first four months from the date of the ASBO being issued.
4) Not to enter Mill Road and approach a number of properties in that road.
The order is due to run between January 27 2010 and January 26 2015.
Karina van Dijk, the Anti-Social Behaviour Manager for North Surrey, said: “Michael Connery, along with other individuals, plagued the lives of residents living in the Mill Road area of Esher over a period of around nine months.
“The residents were unable to lead normal daily lives because of the ongoing harassment they were receiving from Connery. Surrey Police takes any and all forms of anti-social behaviour very seriously and it will not be tolerated.
“I hope this ASBO being granted will reassure residents of Mill Road and the surrounding areas that Esher is now a better, safer place to live."
Elmbridge Neighbourhood Inspector Richard Haycock said: “I welcome this decision which we hope will have a positive impact on the lives of Esher residents.
“Concerns were raised about the ongoing behaviour of Connery and the detrimental impact which he, and other individuals, were having in the area.
“I hope the positive action we have taken to obtain this ASBO demonstrates that we are listening to the concerns of residents and will take all possible steps to tackle anti-social behaviour.
“Surrey Police is committed to tackling all forms of anti-social and criminal behaviour and we will continue to work with our partner organisations to help keep our neighbourhoods safe.”
