E-fit released of man wanted in connection with phone robberies

Detectives in Epsom have released an E-fit of a man they would like to speak to in connection with two robberies in Epsom earlier this month.

The robberies happened close to Epsom Downs Racecourse, where the Epsom Live music event was taking place on Thursday, 8 July.

The suspect, accompanied by another man, approached two 17-year-old boys on a grassed area, close to woodland next to the concert venue, sometime between 11.05pm and 11.20pm.

The suspect pictured in the E-fit asked one of the teenagers if he could use his phone, to which he agreed. The suspect handed it back after dialling some numbers, then asked for it again and walked off, with the phone. The second suspect began talking to the other teenager about his mobile and when the victim removed it from his pocket he snatched it and both suspects walked off towards a wooded area.

Both suspects are described as being in their late teens to early 20s. The first, pictured, is around 5ft 7”-5ft 8” tall, with pale skin and short dark hair. He was wearing a white top with sleeves rolled up to the shoulders, dark shorts which came to just below the knee and black trainers. He spoke with a London street-style accent.

The second suspect is white with tanned skin and with short blond to light brown hair. He was wearing a grey V-neck top with dark trousers and spoke with a southern accent.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Vicki Morris said: “We have produced this e-fit in the hope someone will recognise this man and come forward with the information we need to make an arrest.

“Thankfully no-one was injured during the incident, but it was an unpleasant experience for the victims, so I am appealing to people to take a close look at the E-fit. If you think you know who this person is please contact Surrey Police, or if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers. With your help, we can find the people responsible.”
