Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Update: 15/07/2010 12:50:36

You Said:
Following the latest East Molesey panel meeting held on the 9th June 2010, residents requested that the Safer Neighbourhood Team focus their efforts on anti-social behaviour on the island adjacent to the Wilderness as youths have been trespassing and causing annoyance.

We did:
We have patrolled the area and PCSO Jones has been given keys to access the island through the residents-only gate.
We have spoken to a number of youths on the public side of the Wilderness to advise them not to trespass.
A number of PC’s special constables and PCSO’s have been made aware of the issue and patrols continue.
There have not been many recent reports, so hopefully the problems are reducing.

You Said:
Residents of the same panel meeting also requested that the Safer Neighbourhood Team focus their efforts on Hurst Lane and Dennis Road as youths have been acting in an anti social and disruptive manner.

We did:
We continue to patrol the area but have not received any reports of anti social behaviour since the last update.

Good News:
There have been numerous arrests over the last few weeks which shows that the Neighbourhood Team, Targeted Patrol Team and C.I.D. (Criminal Investigation Department) are working well together in order to make the Molesey and Weston Green areas safe for the public.

One person was arrested following a burglary close to Hampton Court after he was observed acting suspiciously by PCSO Rich Platt and PCSO Nigel Oates. Two bikes were recovered at the time of arrest.

A female has recently been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after striking a resident with her vehicle in a busy street before leaving the scene near Hampton Court Station.

Another motorist was arrested and has been charged for driving whilst being disqualified after police stopped him on Walton Road.
Where possible we will take the strongest action possible to stop motor vehicle crime.

A male was arrested near to Walton Road following an allegation of assault and racial abuse.

Drive SMART:
Drive SMART is a campaign aimed at tackling anti social driving through education rather than enforcement.
You may have seen officers in the Molesey area stopping large numbers of vehicles.
We have been doing this mostly around Hurst Road and Graburn Way.
Generally we have been targeting those driving whilst using a mobile phone, driving without a seat belt and other offences.
We give drivers the opportunity to be issued; A), fixed penalty notice or B), to spend a few minutes with each officer being educated as to the possible consequences of poor driving.
We do this by showing them graphic photographs of accidents and other vehicle incidents.

Drivers are often shocked at what they seen and it is hoped that the advice is taken on board on their future journeys.

Needless to say, most drivers opted to be educated rather than given a fixed penalty notice.

Parking Issues:
I am receiving complaints about anti social parking around the primary schools in East Molesey.
Please park sensibly avoiding zig zags and yellow lines.
I’ve also had reports that people have been parking across residents driveways and have become abusive to residents when challenged.

This is a serious matter and the strongest action will be taken if offences are witnessed.

Meet the Beat:
As always, Justin and I have more “meet the beat” sessions coming up.
Look to the right of this page for details and locations.

Feel free to come along and say hello.

Take care.

Peter and Justin.

We have been in contact with the Environment Agency whom manage the nearby weir. This is where some of the trespassers are entering from.
We are awaiting the results of a request to strengthen the defences around the weir.
Patrols will continue.

You Said:
Residents of the same panel meeting also requested that the Safer Neighbourhood Team focus their efforts on Hurst Lane and Dennis Road as youths have been acting in an anti social and disruptive manner.

We did:
We managed to identify one of the trouble makers after spotting the number plate on his moped.
We utilised the Police National Computer to link the person to the vehicle.
PC Jebb (From West Molesey) and PC Bazley attended the home address of this person and spoke with him and his parents to warn him of his conduct.
He also gave us the name of another offender who was also spoken to and warned as to their behaviour.
Since doing this we have not received any calls from the area but will continue to patrol.

Good News:
One male was recently arrested for burglaries in East Molesey and Spelthorne. He has since been charged and is awaiting trial.

The Molesey Carnival on Saturday 5th June was a success and a good time was had by all.
Thanks to all those who attended and cheered on the floats.
Everyone was good natured and it was a pleasure to patrol the carnival.

We have continued to use the speed gun on Weston Green Road as a deterrent to those driving in an anti social manner.
To date there have been two fixed penalty notices issued to drivers for speeding.

PC Bazley arrested a male for a public order offence and for breaching his Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) following an altercation outside the Royal Oak pub on Walton Road.
The male became aggressive and abusive when being detained by police for a lawful search and was subsequently arrested.
On his release from custody he was charged for breaching his ASBO and bailed to a court.
PC BAZLEY issued him with an order under Section 27 of the Violent Crime Reduction act expelling him from a specific area for up to 48 hours.

Such legislation gives officers the power to arrest anyone breaching this order.

Meet the Beat:
Justin and I have a number of “Meet the Beat” events planned. Look to the right hand side of this page for details and then come a long and say hello.

Thanks for reading.

Following the latest East Molesey panel meeting held on the 9th March 2010, residents requested that the Safer Neighbourhood Team focus their efforts on anti-social parking at the junction of Seymour Road and Beauchamp Road.

We did:
We have written to the school to ask that parents are informed of the risks associated with anti-social parking such as parking too close to junctions and stopping on Zig Zags.

We have spoken to a number of residents with regards to their manner of parking.

We have taken the new speed gun to the location to monitor the speed which people drive along Beauchamp Road and Seymour Road.

Patrols will continue.

Good News:
A Male was recently arrested on Hampton Court Way for driving a vehicle displaying no tax.
When officers searched the vehicle a number of altered tax discs were found. The suspect is on bail pending further enquiries.

A vehicle was stopped by the ANPR team. The chassis number had been tampered with resulting in the seizure of the vehicle and the driver’s arrest.
ANPR stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition. This is technology which allows police to ascertain whether a vehicle is stolen or has been used in crime instantly once it has passed through a specific camera.

Sgt Turner and I responded to reports of a theft in progress on Hurst Park on 15th May 2010.
As a result of our swift response and with assistance from the Targeted Patrol Team and various members of the public the two suspects were quickly apprehended and were arrested following a brief struggle.
The stolen property was quickly recovered and both suspects are due to answer police bail shortly.

Robbery:
On Monday 10th May there was an armed robbery at Ladbrokes betting shop in Weston Green. Offenders used a hammer to damage windows and threatened staff with a gun.
This was between 19:30 and 19:39.
Enquires are continuing, however if you’ve seen anything suspicious please contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222

Other Matters:
With the good weather (hopefully) approaching please be vigilant when out and about and don’t give criminals an opportunity commit crime.
Report anything suspicious to Surrey police.

As ever, make sure you securely lock bicycles where possible as we are still experiencing an elevated level of bike thefts.

Meet Your Local Policing Team:
Have a look at the meeting point locations for our up and coming “Meet the beat” sessions and come along.

Justin and I hope to see some of you at the Molesey Carnival on 5th June.
