Update: 15/07/2010 15:07:40

Welcome to our latest update with details of the actions taken to tackle your neighbourhood priorities for June/July.

Firstly let me start by thanking all the residents that attended the panel meeting held in June, as you will be aware the neighbourhood priority has changed back to speeding, The team will now focus on this, but will still enforce the parking issues around WEST GROVE/CLARENCE ROAD and also THRUPPS LANE/HAVERS AVENUE.

You told us:
Residents told us traffic related incidents were an issue in the neighbourhood.

We’re taking action:
In the past month 10 Fixed Penalty Notices have been issued for traffic related offences including speeding and no seat belts being worn, also the conditions of their vehicles.
8 drivers issued fixed penalty notice for using mobile phones.
4 drivers issued fixed penalty notice for their speed.
12 drivers warned about speed.

Drive SMART will continue to operate in the area of Hersham, which tackles speed, anti social behaviour, traffic related incidents. For more information about Drive SMART visit the website at www.drivesmartsurrey.org.uk.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good Work:
Hersham Team have been thanked for all there efforts by residents for there attendance at the local fairs in Hersham, residents have spoken with the team around many issues that have been raised around the area which the team have helped resolve.

Also in relation to arrests in Hersham, officers have attended Rydens school in relation to an ex student causing problems on the grounds, the female was located on the grounds of the school and arrested for assaulting a teacher.
Another arrest was part of an ongoing joint investigation with trading standards and police around fraud offences, a local resident was arrested for this offence and several vehicles were also seized at the home address.

Neighbourhood Watch:
We are looking for any residents that have the time and are interested in helping with Neighbourhood Watch in their street. If you would like to know more please make contact with your local police team.
At this time we have one further neighbourhood watch in the process of starting in BURWOOD CLOSE.

Community Speed Watch:
I am very keen to launch Community Speed Watch in Hersham due to speeding being the neighbourhood priority, I am still looking for more volunteers to run small groups of around six people to monitor and record vehicle speeds in roads in Hersham. It would be ideal if the groups could be made up by residents of the same road, but this is not essential. Training will be given by Surrey Police in relation to Speed Watch. Anyone who is interested in running one of these small teams could you please make contact with your local Hersham team.

Criminal Damage:
In the last month criminal damage has fallen in the area of Hersham. If you do see any damage being caused please call 0845 125 2222.

Parking congestion:
The team is currently carrying out regular patrols at school drop off and collection times to ease car parking and congestion in local roads around the area. I would ask for your help in relation to this - please bear in mind the traffic and surrounding roads when taking children to and from school.
Also can residents be considerate when parking on BURWOOD ROAD opposite the Green area near to the Church Hall. Further to this seven drivers have been issued fixed penalty tickets for parking in WEST GROVE, junction of CLARENCE ROAD and a further five have been issued warnings for their parking. This will continue to be monitored.

Vehicle security:
We have recently had a number of vehicles broken into around Hersham. Most of these have taken place because the cars have been left unlocked and unsecured on residents’ driveways or on the street. When leaving your vehicle - either when you are parked at home or out and about – please make sure that all your doors and windows are locked and valuables are kept out of sight. Do not leave your sat navs and mobile phones in view, and also for builders in Hersham, do not leave your tools in your vans overnight.
Officers carried out routine checks in Hersham last week and located seven vehicles had been left unlocked and insecured, these were both on driveways and the roadside.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Cycle thefts:
Again, please be aware that there have been some cycle thefts around the local railway stations in Hersham and Walton. The team and our colleagues are patrolling these areas and we have had some good results, but please take care to secure your bike. Also, if you are just leaving it outside or by the side of your house, make sure it is locked and secure. If you require your bike marked then please make contact with either PCSOs Hawkins or Wells or myself on the details above to arrange this.

Bogus callers:
I would like to remind all residents of Hersham to be on your guard and look out for any bogus callers in and around the area. We have received reports about people knocking on doors claiming they are from water or gas companies. If you do have an unexpected caller you are unsure of please follow the advice below:

Don’t allow them into the property

Ask for identification, if they are genuine then they will supply this

Ring the company they claim to represent. Use the number in the phone book, the one on the card may be false. Genuine callers won’t mind waiting.

If you are still unsure, then close the door.

Remember, you do not have to open your door to anyone you do not want to.

The same applies to any rogue traders who have been calling in surrounding areas offering services to repair poor driveways and guttering. Please look out for your friends and neighbours, particularly if you have elderly neighbours. If you see anything suspicious, report it.

Burglaries:
Can I please remind you to ensure that you lock all your doors and windows when leaving your home and keep your valuables out of sight. Secure ladders and garden tools in locked sheds. If you have a side gate then again please lock and secure this, don't make it easy for unwanted visitors to enter your homes. Please report to police anything you believe to be suspicious 999 as an emergency or 0845 125 2222 non emergency.

Useful numbers and contacts:
