Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Update: 14/07/2010 14:20:32

General update

We are now experiencing the very best of the Great British summer. The smell of BBQ’s wafts through the air and some, if not all of us are enjoying the great weather.

The fine weather often leads residents to leave their houses and cars insecure and we ask that you ensure that you are not the victim of an opportunist crime. When you leave your house or car for any length of time please take the time to make sure your doors and windows are locked and secure. Do not leave any property on view which will be tempting to would-be thieves. Lock your sheds and garages and do not leave items such as ladders or shovels laying unattended in your garden that could assist a burglar determined to enter your property.

In recent weeks we have had an upserge in burglarys so please be vigilant

Recent Arrests and good work around the area

A male was arrested by myself for a serious assault on a West Molesey resident which resulted in the victim receiving hospital treatment.

A male was interviewed and reported for the offence of theft of a pedal cycle

Talk SMART campaign

"Leave your phone alone when driving" – that’s the message from Surrey Police and Surrey County Council’s new Talk SMART campaign in Surrey to help stop motorists using hand-held mobile phones at the wheel. The campaign is the latest initiative under the year-long Drive SMART campaign to tackle anti-social driving. During the Talk SMART week there will be enhanced operational activity and online, radio and billboard advertising, along with road shows across the county to remind motorists of the dangers of using their phone while driving.

Bad driving in the county won’t be tolerated and Surrey’s Roads Policing officers will be prosecuting motorists caught using a hand-held mobile phone, which could result in a £60 fine and three penalty points on their licence. If the case goes to court they could also lose their licence and, potentially, their job.

The simple advice to all motorists to avoid prosecution is to turn off your mobile phone for the duration of a journey, or use it only when safely parked. If you call someone who is driving, please take responsibility and hang up.

YOU SAID..
That you were concerned about youth disorder at Dundas Gardens, West Molesey.

WE DID
We carried out a street-a-week at the location, stepped up patrols and visited possible offenders in the road. I am pleased to say from speaking to residents that there have been no further complaints in over 4 weeks now.

Hello to all residents of West Molesey

Well the World Cup is finally here and England have scraped through into the last 16..

Thankfully the USA game went by with very little trouble in East and West Molesey despite a number of pubs being crammed full of supporters. As is always the case with both the World Cup and European Championships patrols are stepped up around local Pubs to make sure that the games go by with the minimum minimum amount of problems.

As the weather gets hotter can I please advise people as to being careful regarding the amount of alcohol that you drink and please bear in mind the fact that binge drinking can seriously affect your health when the sun comes out and could potentially result in you ending up in Hospital.

As we head into the summer we hit the summer fayres for Schools and as you can see from our community engagements the Neighbourhood Team will be present at both Hurst Park and Chandlers Field Schools, where we will be available for advice and also will be marking Bikes.
As well as School Fayres also taking place in the month of June are the Molesey Show which has now passed and was a great success and the annual Music at the Marker on Hurst Park which is always a great evening of fun.

On a different subject there have been a number of Police successes over the last month with the 2 most prominent being:

The arrest of 2 local males for the theft of catalytic converters from West Molesey. Catalytic Converters are hot property at the moment and a number have been stolen locally. In some cases there theft has not been noticed till days afterwards so please be vigilant and if you feel that your car or van is not running as it should then please check underneath the main body to see that the catalytic converter has not been stolen.

also

Two males were recently arrested on suspicion of being in possession of 'Tazers'. These articles are very dangerous, and prohibited under Section 5 of the Firearms Act. We will not tolerate any person possessing such an article in our neighbourhood, and offenders will be dealt with very robustly. If you suspect someone of having a Tazer, please call us.

I start this webpage update with some sad news in respect to the departure of PCSO Chris McCormack who is leaving for pastures new, leaving the West Molesey team and transfering to Cobham.
I'm sure that you wish him luck in his new role and agree he will be sadly missed after 4 years working on the team.
Chris will be replaced in the near future by PCSO Sandra Treadgold who will be moving the other way.

As I sit typing there is heavy rain outside, however for the last 2 weeks the weather has been wonderful and myself and the rest of the team have been making the most of the sun and have been busy cycling around West Molesey and the East Elmbridge area.

With the good weather as always appears to happen anti social behaviour has increased and the team have been particularly concentrating on the Hurst Park area where there have been issues with youths throwing stones at Rowers. Please remember to call Police if you should see such behaviour going on.

On a positive note some good news from the last month.......

A male wanted on warrant for a number of offences was seen by the team and after a long and lengthy chase was caught and arrested.

A male was arrested on the Walton Road for the offences of indecent exposure, offensive weapon in a public place and public order.
On the date in question the male had been causing problems in and around the shops and also at 2 pubs in the area.

3 males were arrested for fraud and false representation when they kept incresing the charge for repairs that they stated they had carried out. Some of the repairs they stated that they had done were on parts of the the property that they themselves had damaged.
Police would not have caught the males but for the great work by an employee of the local Barclays Bank, who raised the alarm when they became concerned.

Please let this be a reminder for all residents to keep an eye out for there elderly neighbours.

YOU SAID..

That you were concerned about speeding vehicles on the Weston Avenue, West Molesey.

WE DID

The road has continued to be targeted by officers this month with speed patrols being conducted regularly. These will be continued over forthcoming months.
