Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Update: 19/06/2010 19:40:52

You Said... We Did

You told us... of your concerns about motorists parking anti-socially in Lancaster Avenue, Guildford; particularly vehicles parking on pavements and on or opposite road junctions, thereby causing an obstruction.

We responded... by patrolling the area scrupulously in order to gather intelligence, educate motorists and enforce penalties against repeat offenders. This includes activity conducted by the wider Safer Neighbourhood Team, Roads Police Community Support Officers (RPCSOs) and the Casualty Reduction Officer.

Neighbourhood Panel Meeting report – Sandfield School, 24 May
This meeting was attended by members of your Safer Neighbourhood Team: A/PS Claire Jones, PCSO Chris Moyes and PCSO Ed Edsall, together with PC Wendy Harden of the Targeted Patrol Team (TPT) and Councillor Caroline Reeves.

Speeding issues in the Stoke area were highlighted and the meeting was updated to the fact that we have already conducted laser speed-gun enforcement in the vicinity, although no vehicles exceeded the designated speed limits at these times. We continue to monitor this situation and will conduct more checks in the areas during rush-hour periods.

Noise issues and drinks containers discarded in Stoke Fields and Stoke Grove were also addressed. The area becomes a 'rat run' at night and is very noisy for the residents into the early hours of the morning. A/PS Jones advised that we will make this an issue on our Friday and Saturday evenings SNAP patrols and our Targeted Patrol Team will also be tasked to patrol the areas.

Display A-Boards left on pavements and roads around Stoke Fields will be addressed with Guildford Environmental Planning department and the broken fence on York Road will be taken up with Surrey County Highways.

The next Neighbourhood Panel meeting is scheduled for Monday, 6 September at Sandfield School, starting at 7.30pm.

Enforcement Week on the way
The Guildford Safer Neighbourhood Team is planning an enforcement week at the end of the GCSE exams in 2010. The team will be working a series of late shifts and targeting youths drinking alcohol when underage and causing anti-social behaviour in our community.

In the past, we have noticed an increase in youths drinking following the exams. This, in turn, causes an increase in anti-social disorder, more litter – and problems for the NHS, police, ambulance services and fire brigade.

We will be seizing any alcohol from underage drinkers. If any adults are suspected of giving alcohol under-18s or buying it on their behalf, they will be liable to arrest.

Details of where the alcohol has been purchased will be taken and the relevant premises will be dealt with by the licensing team.

The young individual(s) in question will have their details taken, logged by police and other services and be asked to be collected by a parent or legal guardian.

In addition, there will be several workshops and road shows running in the community, in conjunction with our partners in the health service. These will focus on education and awareness issues relating to substance misuse.

Please email the team with any relevant locations which you believe may become a problem with youths drinking in the summer.
