Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities
At the public consultation meeting it was agreed that the team would continue to tackle underage drinking in and around the town. New laws introduced this year which make it an offence for anyone under 18 to be in possession of alcohol in a public place for more than 3 times in a year. If caught a third time, the young person could be arrested. This message does seem to be getting through to the youngsters as we have seen a reduction in the amount of alcohol being seized.
We work in partnership with Trading Standards to ensure local stores are not supplying alcohol to underage persons. On the last test purchasing operation I am pleased to say all of our local stores checked ID and refused to serve youth.
The other area we will be concentrating on will be anti-social driving. We will be supporting Operation Drive Smart a Surrey Police and County Council campaign to tackle issues such as speeding, using a mobile phone whilst driving and tackling uninsured drivers.
General update
One of the other concerns often raised by local residents is bad parking. Please do not park on zig-zag lines, block driveways or park on the pavement causing obstruction to pedestrians. We are having particular problems with inconsiderate parking in the local schools, where we will patrol regularly. Any driver found committing an offence is liable to a Fixed Penalty Notice. If you are in any doubt about where you can or cannot park, please get in touch and we will send you a ‘Park SMART in Surrey’ leaflet.
Early September heralds the return to school for the new academic year. Personal safety and the safety of others needs to be at the forefront of peoples' minds. We urge drivers to be careful and vigilant particularly around local schools. Reducing speed and considerate parking in these areas are two simple ways of cutting down on accidents. Do not forget that small children emerging from between two parked cars will often not be seen until the last moment. Towards the end of October the evenings will draw in and visibility reduces making driver awareness even more critical. REMEMBER SPEED KILLS.
There was a small turn out at the latest panel meeting held on Wednesday 28th July 2010 in Regent Hall, Albert Road. No concerns of note were raised and the main topic of conversation centered on the proposed closure of Horley Police Station. The general feeling was strongly for an easily accessable site in the Town Centre. We urge you to express your views by filling in our consultation forms. These are available from the Help Shop, The Library or Police Station amongst other venues. Alternatively please contact us directly and we will arrange delivery to you.

Profile: I am delighted to have recently been posted to Horley where I will be working alongside PC Mark Fulham and PCSO Ian Selbie.
Being a PCSO has given me new challenges. I look forward to working with you, the community, to tackle crime and disorder, and offer reassurance to those that need it.
Getting out on the beat is always interesting and every day is different. If you see me whilst patroling, please feel free to stop me and raise any issues you may have, or just to say hello.
Outside of work I have run 2 marathons and enjoy competing for a local Athletics Club.
Neighbourhood priorities
Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities.
1. You said “Speeding along the Balcombe Road”
We did: Conducted a number of speed checks along the road. The checks are ongoing and part of the forces SMART driving campaign. A large number of people have been issued with warning letters, others have taken part in a driver alert scheme aimed at educating drivers to lower their speed. The worst offenders have been issued tickets.
2. You said "Underage drinking by young people around the town".
We did: Increased patrols in areas with a problem with large groups of youths, seized alcohol from a number of young people. The young people recieved warnings that if in the future they were again seen with alcohol in a public place they could be prosecuted under new laws designed to tackle the problem of underage drinking.
