Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates
Update: 25/08/2010 21:24:00
Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities
The Horley West panel meeting was held on 25th August 2010. Thank you to everyone who attended.
Issues talked about include parking problems at the junction of Grove Road and Parkhurst Grove. This is an area which the Safer Neighbourhood Team will pay attention to in the coming weeks.
There is a concern amongst residents over recent dog on dog attacks in the area of Court Lodge and on the playing fields. Horley Town Council are currently in consultation with Raven Housing and Reigate & Banstead Council with a view to imposing a restriction which will insist on all dog owners putting their dogs on a lead whilst walking them in public on the estate. We will keep you updated on any decision made about this.
The Horley North-west Panel meeting was held on Thursday 20th May 2010.
Thank you to everyone who attended. The support from the general public is always strong in this neighbourhood. Thank you to everyone who supports the Safer Neighbourhood Team and caring for the neighbourhood in which you live.
At the meeting YOU SAID the following points are of concern:
- Road surfacing is poor in the following roads: Benhams Drive, Greenfields Road, Bolters Road South
- Charlesfield Road continues to have a problem with anti social behaviour
- Bolters Road South - fires started in wooded area at the rear of the road
The Safer Neighbourhood Team WILL:
- Report above mentioned roads in poor repair
- Kay Hammond will liaise with the Fire Service about education in schools relating to fires
- Charlesfield Road is an ongoing issue and is waiting for a date for a meeting between council & residents. Kay Hammond suggested getting support from the Local Community Action Group (R&B)
General update
The Safer Neighbourhood team is proactively addressing drugs issues in the Horley West area.
Community intelligence is helping officers identify addresses where it is believed that drugs are being supplied and/or used locally.
During the past few months, local neighbourhood officers have executed a number of Search Warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act with positive results including drug paraphenalia and evidence of Class A drugs found. On one occasion an address was brought to police notice by information from the community. The Safer Neighbourhood Team attended the address in question and recovered over thirty cannabis plants from the location.
There is a general misconception by some people who supply and/or use cannabis that what they are doing is an offence which we do not regard seriously. This is not the case and we will continue to reinforce our zero tolerance approach to illegal drugs of whatever type and associated anti social behaviour in the community.
We are aware that local residents are concerned about drug use and drug related activity and we would like to reassure you that we are determined to crackdown on anyone who uses illegal substances.
Surrey Police will undertake proactive operations and take positive action based on information we receive. Drug misuse is a community problem and It is only through local people having the courage to report offences and suspicions to us that together this problem can be addressed.
The Horley West team are working in partnership with Raven Housing Trust in order to protect the wider community's well-being and we will remain in the community to listen to people's concerns about anti-social behaviour and how, by working together with our partners, we can all tackle these issues.
If you have details about this or any other drug related matters then please call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222. Alternatively you can leave information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
