Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Update: 23/07/2010 14:59:32

Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities

You said:- Cars are still continuing to park inappropriately along Holloway Hill, Chertsey

We did:- We have continued to patrol the area and placed Fixed Penalty notices on any offending vehicles found. The parking along Guildford Road appears to have reduced since the visiting times have changed at the Hospital

You said:- At the local panel meeting that there has been an increase in Anti-social behaviour in the Ottershaw area, especially when Brook Hall is being used in the evenings.

We have:- not received any official complaints but we are liaising with local shop keepers and residents to get a true reflection to what is happening. We have been patrolling the area but have not seen an increase in this type of behaviour.

You said: At the panel meeting that there was speeding along Foxhills Road and Lyne Lane, Lyne.

We did:- Speed enforcement along Foxhills Road and out of 42 vehicles 2 were shown to be speeding. Enforcement was also completed along Lyne Lane and out of 50 cars no vehicles where found to be speeding.

General update

For the next panel meeting in Ottershaw and Lyne, we have requested for our new Crime Reduction Adviser PC Phil Grant to attend to give advice on his expertise. If there is anything specific that you would like him to bring then just send me a quick email so I can get it organised.

If you have any children or family members between the age of 11yr to 16yrs and are free on Saturday 24th July between 4pm-9pm, then take a trip down to The Biz at Runnymede Centre, Chertsey Road, Addlestone KT15 2EP Tel; 01932 989396. They will be holding a Family Open Afternoon with a BBQ, Bar and Disco.

Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities
You said:- Residents in Ottershaw have expressed their concerns over the speed vehicles are travelling in Brox Road and Foxhills Road.

We did:- We have undertaken speed enforcement along with our Road Traffic Unit in these locations. Generally vehicles are travelling at the correct speed with a couple of exceptions. We will continue to monitor these areas.

You said:- Residents of Rowtown have expressed their concerns about the speed vehicles are travelling between Rowtown and Woodham

We did:- We have conducted speed enforcement and out of 95 vehicles 7 were shown to be driving slightly over the 30mph speed limit. We will continue to conduct sporadic checks in this road.

You said:- Parents/Guardians parking outside Holy Family School, Ongar Hill to drop or collect their children are parking inconsiderately.

We did:- Parking on the zigzags or pavements is an offence and offending vehicles will be dealt with robustly. A couple of drivers have been spoken to and asked to move their vehicles to a more approriate part of the road.

General update

Now that the evenings are lighter for longer and the nice weather is approaching, it's time to start thinking about your garden security. Make sure that your shed has a good locking system on it, windows should be covered so items inside cannot be seen and valuable items should be anchored to the floor. Please keep a note of serial numbers of all items housed there, ie. lawnmower, hedge trimmer, pedal cycle etc. Any items you do not intend to sell on, we advise you to paint your postcode in bold letters using a bright coloured paint. Should you require any further crime prevention information please call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222

You said:- Residents of Bousley Rise and parents collecting children from Ottershaw C of E School, have reported that a number of vehicles leaving the location are driving on the pavement due to oncoming traffic.

We did:- These drivers are probably of the opinion that this alleviates the congestion in the road. They are in fact committing an offence of driving on a pavement, as well as causing considerable danger to the many pedestrians who walk home from the school. We have conducted enforcement days with our partners from Runnymede Borough Council as well as impromptu visits by PCSOs to reinforce the message of not driving in such a manner. These enforcement days will continue sporadically.

You said:- A couple of residents have been reporting sightings of suspicious vehicles in various locations.

We did:- We advise residents to report any suspicious activity as quickly as possible via the Surrey Police reporting line of 0845 125 2222 and if at all feasible to gain details ie. decription of persons, vehicle and vehicle registration number.

Profile:
I am a Neighbourhood Specialist Officer for Rowtown/Ottershaw/Foxhills and Lyne and I have worked for Surrey Police as a civilian since 1992, mainly working in communications, answering urgent and non-urgent calls, dealing with the radio and the front counter, so I have a wealth of local knowledge. I hope to put this to very good use by dealing with any anti-social behaviour and reducing and detecting more crime. I will be doing regular foot patrols in the area so if you would like to discuss any issues with me then please get in touch or come and say hello. I am more than happy to come to any of your meetings, just let me know the dates and times.

Profile: I joined the Rowtown, Ottershaw and Foxhills Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team at the beginning of March, before this I was working for 23 years for an international dental manufacturer. I applied for the role of PCSO as I didn't want to spend the next 20 years sitting behind a desk, I wanted to do something that was worthwhile and would help other people. When I'm not at work I enjoy kickboxing and walking my dog.
When you see me out and about, please stop and introduce yourself.
