Spring 2010

Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Update: 13/07/2010 13:36:29

Good news updates...
Back in April, I told you about a distraction burglary in Delta Road, Chobham. This was a particularly nasty offence where the suspects claimed to be from the Water Board to gain entry and when inside stole cash from an elderly resident. Two men were later arrested and charged. I can now tell you that Daniel Mark Hawkins from Windsor pleaded guilty to the offence at Guildford Crown Court and was sentenced to two years imprisonment.

And, on Thursday 24 June a 22 year-old man from Woodland Walk, Aldershot was arrested and charged with an attempted burglary which had occurred on 2 -3 June at a property undergoing renovation in Chertsey Road, Chobham.

Update on Chobham poaching issue
In October last year, several Chobham residents raised concerns to us in regard to ongoing poaching and lamping on their land. This was mainly occurring around Stonehill Road, Chertsey Road and Philpot Lane and it was suggested that some of the residents of the nearby Kalima caravan park may have been responsible.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team visited the affected properties to give advice and in most cases signed the occupants up to our Country Watch scheme.

We made regular visits to the Kalima residents, and in one case in which a young man was identified, we spoke to him and his parents and gave him strong words of warning. He has since gained permission from a landowner in Hampshire to use his land for lamping. The Surrey Heath Borough Council Traveller Liaison officer also visited the site on several occasions and spoke to residents about this issue.

We have been liaising with Kalima's landlords, Surrey Heath Borough Council and Surrey County Council in relation to the Site Licence Agreements currently in place for residents. These licences are due to be re-drafted in the near future, when changes to the Mobile Homes Act come into effect. The Safer Neighbourhood Team has requested that certain conditions regarding residents' behaviour, particularly when it affects close neighbours, are included in the new agreements. Meanwhile, we continue to keep close links with Kalima residents.

The last reported poaching-related incident was back in January. As a result we are closing this as an active Neighbourhood Issue.

If you experience any further issues of this kind, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Stop Press (20/5/2010): Neighbourhood Consultation

Where would you like to meet your Safer Neighbourhood Team? What about your local supermarket or library? Would you prefer to meet them out on patrol? Or are there other potential meeting places you can think of?

We are looking for your ideas for the easiest and most convenient places to meet your Neighbourhood Policing Team, after surveys carried out over the past month show that many people are not using their local police stations.

You can read more about our plans, and give us your ideas through our online survey, here.

Distraction burglary
You may have seen a report in the news recently about a distraction burglary offence in Chobham, in which two men knocked on an elderly woman’s house claiming to be from the Water Board. Once inside, they stole various items from her. One man, from Windsor, and another of no fixed abode have since been arrested and charged with this offence. Both have been remanded in custody and are awaiting trial.
