Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities

SMART Campaign

At present we are targeting areas at risk of speeding by setting up speed traps in Frimley. In September we are adding to this campaign by patrolling areas near schools at prime times in order to combat anti social driving and parking.

If you have any suggestions on which roads we should pay attention to please contact us and let us know.

Roads so far we've been working on:

Tomlins Ave
Alphington Ave
St Catherine's Road
Balmoral Drive

Look out for us patrolling your area and please drive carefully and be conscious to other road users. We'll be watching...

Arrests made in Surrey Heath drugs raids
Dawn raids took place in Camberley and Frimley on 24-25 June resulting in 14 people being arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

The raids, which were the culmination of the 16-week intelligence-led Operation Kingsville, saw a team of 90 detectives, dog handlers, search teams and rapid entry units successfully target 11 addresses across Surrey Heath.

DI John Cable of the Operational Proactive team said: “Operation Kingsville is focused on disrupting the supply of illegal drugs in the borough and is a result of painstaking work to draw out street level dealers.”

Neighbourhood Inspector James Norbury said: “Our challenge now is to prevent alternative suppliers filling the gap. Residents will see increased patrols in areas where there are known problems, specific targeting of locations where drugs are sold and used, together with the sharing of information with the community.”

The Surrey Heath Safer Neighbourhood Team will be working closely with partner agencies, including the Surrey Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) and Surrey Heath Borough Council, to offer help to drug users to break the cycle of addiction through treatment and rehabilitation.

Neighbours and residents in the various locations were provided with information about the raids which offered reassurance while encouraging the community to tell police about crime in their area. Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously and free of charge on 0800 555 111.

Two charged following Frimley burglary
Two Frimley men have been charged following a number of local burglaries.

Officers arrested the pair when one was found hiding in bushes following a burglary in Latham Avenue on Wednesday, 23 June. The other was later identified as a suspect.

The arrests resulted from an ongoing investigation by the Safer Neighbourhood Team, including Neighbourhood Specialist Officers and PCSOs.

Matthew Mccarron, 19, appeared before Woking Magistrates on Friday, 25 June when he was charged with two offences of burglary. Mccarron was placed under a curfew to reside at his home address between 7.00pm and 7.00am.

A 17-year-old was also charged with three burglaries and of going equipped to steal. He was given conditional bail.

The two are next due to appear at Woking Magistrates Court on 23 August 2010.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously and free of charge on 0800 555 111.

You said... We Did

Local shopkeepers told us... of their concerns about an increase in petty theft on Frimley High Street.
We responded... by introducing the shopkeepers to the Alertbox network. This is a new electronic system enabling traders to instantly communicate with each other to help win the battle against shoplifting.

The network aims to help reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour, theft or potential security threats, by allowing businesses to share important information quickly.

When an Alertbox member issues a warning about a particular issue, such as shoplifting or criminal damage, the message is sent instantly to all the other businesses on the local network thereby giving owners and staff the opportunity to be on their guard and take appropriate action to prevent further offences.

The network is a great way of getting shopkeepers to talk to each other and share information quickly and easily. It serves as an early warning system and can help stop problems such as serial offenders who may go from one premises to the next.

Installed by Surrey Police, Alertbox was piloted in shopping areas in Hersham and Sunbury-on-Thames last year and proved effective, not only in improving communication between businesses but also in reducing low level incidents by 9%.

We continue to carry out patrols and are working with the local partners and shopkeepers as usual. The system is just a simple way for shopkeepers to instantly alert each other about possible problems before they arise.

Parks and open spaces
The Safer Surrey Heath Partnership is actively seeking to reduce the number of acts of criminal damage to its more than 630 acres of parks and open spaces. Acts of vandalism mean that Surrey Heath Borough Council is spending ever increasing amounts of council tax repairing criminal damage.

If you have any information about vandalism in the area, please contact one of the following:
• Surrey Heath Borough Council on 01276 707100; email leisure.services@surreyheath.gov.uk
• Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222
• Surrey Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555 1111
