Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates
Update: 01/07/2010 15:50:25
You Said... We Did
You requested... an increased police presence in late afternoon and into the evenings, when groups identified as young adults are present on the Heatherside playing field(s) leaving litter behind. You also reported vehicles being driven in an anti-social manner late in the evenings around the Heatherside estate.
We responded... by adjusting local officers' shifts, working later into the evenings and engaging with the public giving suitable words of advice on these issues.
You told us... about young people acting in a suspicious manner on the playing field in and around the youth shelter and surrounding vegetation.
We responded... by liaising with Surrey Heath Borough Council's Parks department who suggest the thinning out/removal of the low level vegetation to open out the area and reduce the possibility of people hiding there. This work should be done in the near future.

Safer Communities
Your Neighbourhood Team officers have a vision in which every road/street in Parkside and Heatherside is covered by an active Neighbourhood Watch scheme. Our officers are currently working towards this ideal situation by identifying and canvassing at least one street each month where there is an inactive Neighbourhood Watch or where a new scheme could be started up.
Currently 1,428 Heatherside & Parkside properties are registered in 52 Neighbourhood Watches. This may appear a small proportion of the area, but it has a truly positive effect on the community. If you would like to become involved in this worthwhile and rewarding scheme and do your bit for your community, please contact Tina or Vince for further details.
Parkside area residents in Holly Hedge Road and Evergreen Road recently established Neighbourhood Watch schemes. Three other roads are soon expected to complete the set-up process.
Anti-social driving
Positive action has been taken following reports of anti-social driving in the area. This has resulted in a driver being issued with a Section 59 warning which states that any further anti-social behaviour of this sort will result in their vehicle being seized, incurring a very large recovery fee payable by the offender. Anti-social use of vehicles is not acceptable and a Zero Tolerance approach is always adopted when offenders are identified.
Please visit the Drive SMART website which includes downloadable leaflets and posters http://www.drivesmartsurrey.org.uk/campaigns/park-smart/advice-tips.aspx
Neighbourhood Panel meetings and Surgeries
Feedback from our Panel meetings and Surgeries for both the Heatherside and Parkside areas can be summed up very simply, as concern over the inconsiderate use of vehicles by drivers parking in locations where residents and other road users are being inconvenienced.
We have been made aware of:
• Vehicles parking across dropped kerbs, thereby preventing access to/from private driveways
• Vehicles parking in close proximity to junctions, thereby causing a reduction in the line of sight in/out of that junction
• Double parking of vehicles, thus reducing the usable road width - resulting on one occasion in the prevention of a refuse collection

Profile: My name is Vince Wakeling;
I have been in post since November 2005. Since joining Surrey Police I have established sound links with the children and adults of Heatherside and Parkside resulting in their addressing my by my first name.
I work very closely with your Beat Officer PC Tina Fitzpatrick. As a team we strive to tackle issues that have a negative impact on your lives by making ourselves available and approachable as often as possible both on regular foot patrols and at our surgeries held at various venues on a regular basis.
We work with partner agencies to tackle neighbourhood issues but need you to keep us apprised of what is important to you and what we should be concentrating on.
An ideal opportunity for you to express any concerns would be at our surgeries/panel meetings, please check on our ‘meeting dates’ for dates and venues.
