Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Update: 02/11/2009 11:45:20

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read the latest update from the Mytchett, Deepcut and Frimley Green policing team.

Mytchett
Babs and I have continued to regularly patrol the roads immediately around Mytchett Primary School. The aim of these patrols is to target parents parking illegally and improve the safety for all the children and residents in the area. We continue to have a positive response from the majority of parents who seem pleased to see us outside the school.

Following a call from a Mytchett resident, a man was arrested this month for selling counterfeit DVDs. I remind all residents that being found in possession of any such counterfeit good is an offence that could lead to your arrest. If you are approached by anyone selling such goods please contact Surrey Police.

The annual Mytchett Bonfire and Fireworks display was held on Sunday, 1 November. Around 1,000 members of the public attended and the evening passed without incident.

Deepcut
A man has been arrested and is currently on police bail following two burglaries at addresses on Deepcut Bridge Road.

Frimley Green
At the Panel Meeting held on 5 October at Frimley Green Methodist Church Hall, residents voted parking issues in and around Frimley C of E school as the policing priority for the quarter. As a result of this Babs and I have been regularly patrolling the area, paying particular attention at school drop-off and pick-up times. We have had a positive response from residents and parents who are supportive of our aim to increase road safety around the school.

Two men, part of a group causing a disproportionate amount of anti-social behaviour in Frimley and Frimley Green, have been dealt with by officers for two separate offences this month. One man was reported to court for a public order offence, while the second was reported for the attempted theft of a bicycle in Frimley Green.

Halloween update
I am pleased to report that Halloween night passed without any major incidents in all three of our areas. At the time of writing, I have received no reports of criminal damage or the egging of houses. On the evening, the Surrey Heath Borough team had 27 police officers and PCSOs patrolling the area and targetting those responsible for any anti-social behaviour. In conjunction with the successful Halloween Howler event run by Heatherside residents, and people participating in the correct way, this means that the evening can be considered a success.

And finally
The December Surgery for Frimley Green and Mytchett will be held on Tuesday 1 December in St Andrew's Church, beginning at 8,00pm. This will be a combined surgery and Christmas get-together funded by Surrey County Council. The Surrey Police Memorial Band will perform a Christmas concert and the Mytchett School Choir will sing two yuletide songs.

After the concert you are welcome to join us for a buffet and refreshments in the hall next to the church where there will also be some lovely Christmas gifts on sale. Babs will soon be visiting Frimley Green and Mytchett shops to put up posters advertising this event. Please come along and enjoy a fun night.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read the latest update from the Mytchett, Deepcut and Frimley Green Safer Neighbourhood Police Team.

Updates on Policing priorities:

Mytchett

Now that the schools are back, the Neighbourhood Team will continue to monitor the parking problems around Mytchett Primary School.

September:

There have been three reported thefts of push bikes in Mytchett. These bikes have all been stolen from the owners' gardens where they were left insecure. Please remember to secure push bikes by using a lock and chain, even if they are in your garden.

Deepcut

September:

A male from Suffolk Court was arrested for a public order offence after several members of the public reported him using foul and abusive language. The male has been charged and will appear before magistrates later this month.

Also, a male who was reported by a member of public for driving a motorbike in a dangerous manner around the Dettingen Estate has had his motorcycle seized and has been reported for driving offences.

Following a report from a member of public, I attended an area of St Catherine's Wood between Frimley Green and Deepcut. The member of public had come across five fully mature cannabis plants growing in a small clearance. These plants had obviously been deliberately planted and even had copper and slug pellets around the bases to protect them. They have now been removed and sent for destruction. If anybody comes across any similar plants, please contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.

Frimley Green

The Frimley Green and Frimley Teams are working together with regard to a group of youths who are responsible for a disproportionate amount of anti-social behaviour in the area. In the last month, three members of this group have been arrested in connection with a fight that occurred at Frimley Green Recreation Ground. They are currently on bail until they attend court and are not allowed to associate with each other until then.

HALLOWEEN

The evening of the 31st October, Halloween, is historically the busiest night of the year for Surrey Police. Although, as always, the majority of people enter into the spirit of the evening in the correct way, a minority take the opportunity to use the evening as an excuse to cause mindless damage to property and a general nuisance to members of the public.

Surrey Police take this kind of anti-social behaviour very seriously and there will be an increase in officers out on patrol in the Surrey Heath area. The Neighbourhood Team will all be out on patrol in the Borough and will be supported by colleagues from the Targeted Patrol Teams dealing with any individuals behaving in an anti-social manner. The intention is to deal with any offenders and allowing the majority of residents to enjoy the evening’s festivities.

I would ask all residents to report any anti-social behaviour to Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222. I would also ask parents be aware of what their children are up to and ensure that if they are trick or treating, they are doing so in a supervised manner.

FIREWORKS

Again we hope you will all enjoy the 5th November and I just want to give you a quick reminder about the law covering the use of fireworks:

Apart from organised displays, it is an offence to set of fireworks past 11pm in the evening.
It is also an offence to supply any person under the age of 18 with fireworks.
It is an offence to throw fireworks in the street at any time.

I would encourage people to attend one of the many well run fire work displays which are being held in the local area, such as the Mytchett Centre which has a large display and fun fair on the evening of Sunday 1st November.

And finally...

Just a reminder that this month Babs and I will be holding our quarterly Panel Meetings in all three areas. The details are as follows:

Frimley Green Monday 5th October. 7pm at the Frimley Green Methodist Church Hall

Mytchett Tuesday 6th October. 7pm at the Basingstoke Canal Centre

Deepcut Thursday 8th October. 7pm at the Deepcut Village Centre

We hope to see you there……

Thank you.

Stuart and Babs

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read the latest update from the Mytchett, Deepcut and Frimley Green Police Team.

Updates on Neighbourhood Policing priorities:

Mytchett
There are no new updates with regards to the parking issues around Hamesmoor School in Mytchett due to the School holidays.

Frimley Green
The Frimley Green and Frimley Safer Neighbourhood Teams are working together regarding a group of youths who are responsible for a disproportionate amount of anti-social behaviour in the area. The police are working in partnership with the parents of this group and other agencies to improve their behaviour and reduce the effect they have on the community.

In the last month:

The annual Fun Fair was held at Frimley Lodge Park between the 24th July and 1st August. The fair was officially opened by the Mayor on Thursday 23rd July where a local charity for children with special needs had sole use of the fair. Three hundred special needs children and their families had a great day in the sun and the local Police Team were there to meet the kids. A great time was had by all.

The fair was then opened to the public and I am pleased to report that it passed without any incident.

On Tuesday 4th August, Babs hosted what we hope will be (weather permitting) an annual BBQ for the residents of Mytchett at the Basingstoke Canal Centre. Fifty residents attended along with County Councilor Chris Pitt and Surrey Heath Councillor Mike Drew. Food, drink and BBQ’s were brought along by residents and a big thank you to Diane Britnell, the Neighbourhood Watch coordinator, and Coleford Bridge Road for organising the kitchen. A good time was had by all and the event was a great opportunity to meet neighbours and discuss local issues.

Car Crime Initiative

Surrey Police is currently running an anti car crime initiative aimed at reducing the number of thefts from motor vehicles.

Please remember the following:

Lock the doors, windows, boot and sunroof every time you leave the car.
Use your vehicle's security devices.
Don’t leave valuable items in your car - take them with you at all times.
Make a note of any serial numbers, without them your valuable items are untraceable.
Keep your driving documents and personal correspondence at home.
Lock the car and remove your keys from the ignition at petrol stations, keep the keys with you.
Call the police on 0845 125 2222 if you see anyone acting suspiciously or 999 in an emergency.

Thank You

PC Stuart Brant
