Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Update: 02/07/2010 08:40:14

You Said... We Did

You said... you were concerned about illegal driving and riding of motor vehicles on heath land and woodland around the estate.
We responded... by carrying out patrols of the heath land with partner agencies.

You said... you were concerned about anti-social behaviour on Dean Parade.
We responded... by carrying out more patrols in the area at relevant times. In a recent incident, a resident living above the shops was verbally abused. I have requested a copy of CCTV coverage to try and identify the offenders so they can be dealt with for a public order offence. Please continue to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour to Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.

You said... you were concerned about anti-social behaviour along Kings Ride late at night.
We responded... with more patrols of the area at relevant times. We also sent letters to addresses along this road to invite residents to form a Neighbourhood Watch. However, due to a low response we are unable to go ahead at this time. If you would like to be involved, please get in touch with PCSO 13702 Bev Gosden whose contact details are listed above.

Fourteen arrests in Surrey Heath drugs raids
Dawn raids took place in Camberley and Frimley on 24-25 June resulting in 14 people being arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

The raids, which were the culmination of the 16-week intelligence-led Operation Kingsville, saw a team of 90 detectives, dog handlers, search teams and rapid entry units successfully target 11 addresses across Surrey Heath.

DI John Cable of the Operational Proactive team said: “Operation Kingsville is focused on disrupting the supply of illegal drugs in the borough and is a result of painstaking work to draw out street level dealers.”

Neighbourhood Inspector James Norbury said: “Our challenge now is to prevent alternative suppliers filling the gap. Residents will see increased patrols in areas where there are known problems, specific targeting of locations where drugs are sold and used, together with the sharing of information with the community.”

The Surrey Heath Safer Neighbourhood Team will be working closely with partner agencies, including the Surrey Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) and Surrey Heath Borough Council, to offer help to drug users to break the cycle of addiction through treatment and rehabilitation.

Neighbours and residents in the various locations were provided with information about the raids which offered reassurance while encouraging the community to tell police about crime in their area. Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously and free of charge on 0800 555 111.

Goodbye, Amanda
PCSO Amanda Proctor is no longer part of the Old Dean Safer Neighbourhood Team as she is currently training to become a police officer. We all wish her every success in her new career.

We responded... by carrying out patrols of the heath land with partner agencies.

You said... you were concerned about anti-social behaviour on Dean Parade.
We responded... by carrying out more regular patrols of the area at relevant times. We have since moved several youths on and given them words of advice about not playing football in this area.

We responded... with more regular patrols of the area at relevant times.

You said... you were concerned about vehicles speeding through the estate.
We responded... by conducting a speed enforcement exercise in which more than ten cars were stopped for speeding within one hour. We will continue these exercises at regular intervals to clampdown on drivers failing to stick to the speed limit.

Poppyhills Community Garden needs YOUR help
Would you like to:
• grow your own fruit and vegetables?
• create a natural environment?
• be part of a community team?

We are looking for volunteers - with or without gardening experience - to make the Poppyhills Community Garden their own. This is an exciting project being set-up by Surrey Police in partnership with Surrey Heath Borough Council and Old Dean residents. We need your support to make this happen. For further details, please e-mail wsnt_sh_south@surrey.pnn.police.uk (for the attention of PCSO 13702 Bev Gosden).

Illegal use of motorbikes
Having received several reports of motorcyclists using the heath land illegally in April, police have started to spend more time in the area in an attempt to catch the offenders.

Two males were caught riding motorbikes onto the heath in April and have both been issued with a Section 59 warning which means should they get caught riding in an anti-social manner within the next twelve months then their vehicles will be automatically seized.

During May we have several multi-agency exercises arranged so we will be spending more time on the heath land, especially at times when these nuisance motorbikes are mainly reported.

Anti-social behaviour: Old Dean shops and Berkshire Road
We are still receiving reports of youths hanging around the shop area, playing football and generally causing a nuisance there.

Firstly, there is no excuse for anyone to be playing football in this area as the lighter evenings are here and there are currently several goal posts in the Wimbledon Road recreation ground.

If this situation does not improve over the next month I will consider once again imposing a Section 30 order on the area. This will give police the power to move any group of two or more away. If they then return within 24 hours they will be arrested for breaching the order.

Anti-social behaviour along Kings Ride late at night
Unfortunately, I have started receiving reports of anti-social behaviour yet again occurring late at night along Kings Ride, Barossa Road and Old Dean Road.

Residents in these streets are quite rightly fed up with the behaviour of certain individuals who pass by, often intoxicated, late at night on the way home. Police will patrol these roads more frequently at the relevant times and anyone caught behaving in an anti-social manner - from the very minor offence of littering to the more serious offence of criminal damage - will be appropriately dealt with.

If you hear or see any anti-social behaviour occurring, please call police straight away. The sooner we can get there, the better chance we have of catching the offender.

Sentence imposed
Last year Daniel Dillon, who lives on the estate, was arrested for a burglary at Collingwood College. He recently appeared in court and pleaded guilty to committing the offence and was given a custodial sentence.

Wimbledon Road Recreation Ground Pavilion
We would like to thank all those young people from the estate who gave up their time during the Easter holidays to continue working on the revamp of the Pavilion. We were very impressed with their commitment and their ability to work as a team. The painting of the buildings has greatly improved the appearance of the rec. In future, anyone caught spraying graffiti on those buildings will be dealt with appropriately.

Easter Holiday programme success
We had a great turnout for the events held on the Wimbledon Road Recreation at Easter time, the music project being one of the most popular. The treasure hunt, sand bottles, icing biscuits and football classes were also well attended and enjoyed by all.

We would like to thank the Co-op and Spar from the Old Dean Parade for donating the Treasure Hunt prizes, also the Old Dean Bowling Club for providing lunch for the team involved in the project and for kindly allowing us to use their premises.
