Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Update: 02/02/2010 10:21:54

St John’s Lye: issue closed
At the Neighbourhood Panel Meeting on Monday 1 February it was decided that our only Neighbourhood Priority - anti-social behaviour on St John's Lye – should be closed as we have had no reports from the Lye since October (except those due to the bad weather conditions).

However, we will be closely monitoring the area and if the problems re-surface we will re-open the issue.

Meanwhile, we still urge residents to report any criminal activity taking place on the Lye, either on 0845 125 2222 number; or 999 in an emergency.

Speeding concerns
While out and about in the area we have heard numerous concerns from residents about speeding, especially in St John’s Hill Road. Casualty Reduction Officer, PC Wilkes, is now monitoring the problem and conducting numerous speed checks in the area.

There is also a way for you to help monitor speeding – by joining Community Speed Watch. This is already up and running in Mayford and we would love to have more such schemes in the area. Community Speed Watch has been extremely successful across the county and it's a great way of addressing speeding in a given area. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us for more information.

Actions taken on your Neighbourhood Priorities

St John's Lye
We are pleased to announce that we have had no further reports of anti-social behaviour on St John’s Lye. As a result, we may close it as the Neighbourhood Issue for the area.

This topic (and others) will be up for discussion at the Neighbourhood Panel Meeting at St John’s Memorial Hall on Monday 1 February, starting time 7.30pm.

If you have a comment or a concern, do come along and put your point across. If you can't make the meeting, please contact us by email or stop one of us while we're out and about on patrol.

General update

Tighten security on new-build and renovation projects
There have been a number of recent break-ins at new-build homes and properties undergoing major renovations. Please can we remind all residents whose homes are being refurbished; or tradesmen who are working in any house under construction that you:

• Ensure windows and doors are left securely locked
• Fit a burglar alarm
• Do not leave valuable items in the house including TVs or computers

Don't make things easy for criminals. Stay safe and lock your things away!

Dangerous weather conditions
The recent severe weather conditions have left a great deal of snow and ice on Woking’s public pathways and roads. With more snow forecast for the next few days, please go out only if necessary – and allow extra time for your journey.

Snow activities: be responsible
We have received reports of dangerous behaviour by some youths throwing snowballs. While we understand that snow is exciting and that snowball fights may seem a good fun idea, they can be dangerous to others, as can sledging.

Please act responsibly and make sure you only join in snow-related activities with others who also want to participate. And make sure you do so away from roads, pathways, vehicles, homes, businesses – and other people who do not want to be involved.

Take care and stay safe.
