Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates
Update: 18/11/2009 08:56:56
Our mid-November Update
We hope you and your family enjoyed Halloween and Bonfire Night safely - and we now turn our attention to the run-up to Christmas.
Surrey Police is currently focusing on burglary prevention and we urge all residents to take note of the tips below when securing your home and property at this time of year. Woking is a safe place and we all want to keep it that way.
Before you go out, please REMEMBER TO:
• Close and lock all doors and windows even if you are going out for just a short time
• Set your burglar alarm
• Make sure your side gate or back gate is shut and locked
• Lock your shed or garage
• Make sure that valuables are kept out of sight
• Put keys out of reach of windows or doors
• If you are going out in the evening, make sure the curtains are closed and some lights left on
Let's all work together to keep burglaries down.
If you have any information that you think may assist our investigations into burglaries and other crimes, you can either phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or email us directly on w_safer_woking_wes@surrey.pnn.police.uk
Thefts of tools from vans increase
We have seen a recent increase in the targeting of vans containing tools. To combat this we would like to encourage van owners not to leave any tools in your vehicle overnight and be extra vigilant during the daytime. Whenever you leave you van unattended, please ensure that it is secure.
If you would like one of our ‘No tools are left in this vehicle overnight’ stickers, please get in touch with the Safer Neighbourhood Team using the contact details above.
Brookwood and Knaphill Panel Meetings
There was a disappointingly low turnout for Brookwood's November Panel Meeting (the first since July). However there is another opportunity to air your views to the local policing team between 7.30-8.30pm on Tuesday 1 December, at Brookwood Primary School in Connaught Road.
We would also like to remind Knaphill residents that your next Panel Meeting is on Thursday 3 December 2009 at the Holy Trinity Church Hall, Chobham Road, between 7.30-830pm. We are hoping that a representative from the Alpha Hospital will attend to answer any questions or concerns you may have. We hope to see you there!
School drop-off and pick-up
The Safer Neighbourhood Team is currently inundated with concerns from residents and road users about dangerous and illegal parking by parents taking their children to schools in the area and picking them up later in the day. A particular area of concern is vehicles using Amstel Way to drop-off and pick-up Winston Churchill School pupils.
It is illegal to park on Amstel Way, as is clearly indicated by ‘no stopping at anytime’ signs at either end of the road. And it is not permissible to park in the designated cycle lane on both sides of the road. This is a highly dangerous practise as Amstel Way is constantly busy. The Safer Neighbourhood Team will be carrying out patrols to deal with this situation.
We would also like to reiterate that parking on dropped kerbs and blocking driveways is not only illegal, it is also inconsiderate to residents. This issue is particularly prevalent along Connaught Road near Brookwood Primary School. We will also be focusing patrols here to put a stop to this. If you would like to discuss any parking issues, please contact a member of the team.
And finally
It was great to see so many people at the first Knaphill Remembrance Day service to be held outside the King's House coffee shop. A big 'well done' to all who help organise the event, it was very moving to see the community coming together to remember those who sacrificed so much.
Thank you,
The Knaphill and Brookwood Safer Neighbourhood Team

I joined Surrey Police in 2000 and have been fortunate to be involved in many different aspects of policing. I have taken part in response driving and responding to calls, along with dealing with volume crime and being part of proactive intelligence led team which included the town centre night patrols. I will continue to perform my duties as a tutor to new recruits as well as being an anti-terrorist search officer, being on call for any such occasion. I am looking forward to being part of the Brookwood, and Knaphill areas. I hope that I am a useful tool to combating your concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
