Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Update: 09/07/2010 10:02:46

You Said…We Did

You complained… about individuals riding mopeds in an anti-social manner in the area.
We responded… by targeting individuals who were riding without due care and attention; without crash helmets and repeatedly speeding in the Community Centre car park.

There have also been reports of mopeds being ridden along the Basingstoke Canal towpath. One rider has already been issued with a warning and if caught re-offending they will have their moped seized.

Sheerwater Summer Festival
Sheerwater's annual event takes place on Saturday 24 July this year, at the recreation ground off Blackmore Crescent...yes, its the Sheerwater Summer Festival. For those of you who have never been or are new to the area, this is a fun day out for all the family.

The ever popular fun fair will be there as well as stalls from local traders and a wide variety of displays to entertain you. The Sheerwater Neighbourhood team will be there so if you feel like a chat, come along and say hello.

You Said... We Did

You told us... there were problems with people cycling on the pavement outside the shops on Dartmouth Avenue
We responded... by tasking officers on our regular patrols to target offenders found cycling on pavement and give words of advice to them. The issue was discussed in the recently Neighbourhood Panel meeting and it was decided that the problem had greatly improved. Therefore, this priority is closed for the time being.

You said... We Did

You told us... of a problem with youths cycling on the pavement and showing no consideration for other pavement users outside the shops in Dartmouth Avenue, Sheerwater.
We responded... by making high visibility patrols of Dartmouth Avenue paying particular attention to cyclists on the pavement. We gave several cyclists words of advice regarding the manner of their riding. We regularly liaise with residents who now tell us they have seen a visible difference to the area concerning cyclists on the pavement.

You Said... there is a problem with anti-social behaviour near the recreation ground in Sheerwater; your main concerns being damage to property and vehicles, eggs thrown - and youths climbing on buildings and behaving disruptively.
We responded... by holding a meeting with our partner agencies to help resolve the issue. We also conducted high-visibility patrols in the area and nominated one persistent offender to the monthly partnership meetings at the council offices. In addition we made a joint police and council visit to the parents of individuals identified and we completed a social service referral.

Be extra vigilant
The Safer Neighbourhood Team urges residents to be extra vigilant as thieves have been operating in Sheerwater. Please ensure that all doors and windows are locked and secure, particularly when leaving the house. Also make sure your gates and sheds are locked to help deter a potential burglar. Please report any suspicious circumstances to the Police.

Enjoy the World Cup responsibly
The World Cup is nearly upon us and everyone will be supporting their favourite country. The Safer Neighbourhood Team would like everyone in Sheerwater to enjoy the footballing festivities. Please be responsible and show consideration to your neighbours.
