Spring 2010

Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates

Update: 30/06/2010 14:06:48

Alfold Fun Day
The Alfold Fun Day is being held at Alfold Sports Ground and Village Hall on Saturday, 3 July. There will be many sporting activities, stalls and other entertainment available.

The fun starts at 2.00pm. So, I would like to advise anyone intending to drive on the day, that local roads will be considerably busier than usual. Please also bear in mind that there will be a Pram Race at the start of the event. The race will start from the Three Compasses pub and finish at the Sports Ground. This will be marshalled and should only last a short time.

Community Speed Watch for Ellen's Green?
Anyone over 18 can volunteer for Community Speed Watch. All you need to do is give a small amount of time each week (or even each month) to actively help reduce speeding in the village. All the training you need will be provided. If you wish to participate in Community Speed Watch in Ellen's Green or would like to just find out more information please contact us.

You Said... We Did

You told us... Stovolds Hill regularly floods during heavy rain and the road surface is in poor state of repair.
We liaised... with Surrey County Council's Highways Department who carried out extensive works to assist in drainage of excess surface water, along with road resurfacing and repair where and when required.

You said... a Neighbourhood Watch scheme was needed in Chilton Close, Alfold.
We responded... by engaging local residents in discussion and a Neighbourhood Watch and Co-ordinator was established in the area in question.

You said... street lighting was required in Chilton Close, Alfold.
We contacted Downland Housing... inviting them to a recent residents/panel meeting. The topic of lighting and other matters was raised and feasibility and costing studies are now underway. The final decision - which will come from Downland Housing - is currently awaited.

Join Community Speed Watch
We know that speeding is one of the factors affecting the quality of life within Waverley’s communities.

Surrey Police is currently inviting members of the public to work with us to tackle anti-social drivers and help make Surrey's roads safer by participating in a Community Speed Watch scheme. We provide full training, all the equipment – including hand-held speed detection devices – and ongoing support. Residents can then help to educate motorists regarding speed and raise their awareness of the impact that anti-social driving has on local communities. There are already around 80 such schemes in the county, and they are making a real difference in reducing anti-social driving.

If you are concerned about speeding vehicles in your area and would like to become involved with Community Speed Watch, or if you know of any friends or neighbours who may be interested, please contact Waverley’s Casualty Reduction Officer, PC Peter Harris, on 01483 631625 or e-mail 1767@surrey.pnn.police.uk

Metal thefts
One area of crime that seems to continue, though not specifically in our area, is the theft of metals in the form of both scrap and machinery. Garden shed break ins are also prevalent at this time of year. Please remember to up your security and keep an eye on your property and that of your neighbours. If you spot anything untoward, give us a call. Don't challenge anyone yourself unless appropriate and do take any vehicle registrations and details. I can then pass these on to our Intelligence Unit and also to our old friend PC John Hockley and Country Watch.
Please remember that crime is relatively very low in our villages and if help is needed we are only a phone call away.
So please keep our details to hand. If you would like one of my business cards to put up near your phone or put in your wallet please let me know.
Take care and stay safe
PC Dave Hill

Profile: I joined Surrey Police in 1998 at Guildford, later moving into the CID Department around 2001 and spent nearly three years on the West Surrey Burglary Team investigating Dwelling Burglaries. In 2005 I moved to the CID office at Farnham where again I was involved in a wide variety of local investigations.I have also been part of the Surrey Police Counter Terrorist Search Team since 2004 having been involved in several high profile Search Operations around the Country. I am very happy to have the opportunity to get back to local policing and look forward to meeting as many members of our local communities as possible in order to discuss issues that are important to you. My late father was the ‘village bobby’ for the village of Shackleford having joined the Force in 1948, so you might say it runs in the family!
Having lived and worked in the general area all of my life I am extremely keen to meet as many people as possible so if you see us out and about please stop for a chat
