Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities

You Said...We Did

Anti-Social Behaviour in Broadwater Park and all park areas: WV/10/3280
You said... there was anti social behaviour in Broadwater Park and other playpark areas in the area
We responded...by continuing regular patrols of the parks. This Neighbourhood Issue will continue to run as we are still receiving reports of nuisance behaviour in the park areas. We continue to patrol the parks and have had a few alcohol seizures, one youth has also been dealt with for being in possession of cannabis. This issue will continue to run over the holiday and warm weather period, and will now encompass all park/playground areas.

Green Lane shops: WV/10/1670
You told us...about anti social behaviour around the shops at Green Lane
We responded... by continuing to monitor the situation. The reports of this anti-social behaviour seem to have reduced in number, and a local youth has been banned from one of the shops. This issue will continue to run and be monitored for the holiday period.

General update

Safety Update
Please can everyone be aware of there personal safety around the level crossings and Rail station. The barriers are there for you own safety and it is a criminal offence to trespass on the railway, which you can be prosecuted for. In the recent weeks two youths have been stopped running across the level crossing, while it was closing and are now being dealt with by British Transport Police. Also on the same day a male was struck by a train after having jumped onto the tracks at the Station to recover some property. Fortunately he escaped with only minor injuries but it could have been a lot more serious.

Mopeds
We have had an increase in the number of reports of anti social driving in the area. Please note that those of you riding on a provisional licence are NOT allowed to carry pillion passengers and should display the correct size L plates front and back. The correct safety equipment should be worn at all times, including a helmet. This includes any passengers, and if the helmet is not done up this counts as not being worn and you can be prosecuted for it. Any persons caught driving in an anti social manner will be dealt with and should the behaviour continue it could lead to the vehicle being seized. The owner would then become liable for the recovery and daily storage costs.
We need your support in order to deal with these incidents so if you see any anti social driving please report them on 0845 125 2222.

Bike Thefts
The country as a whole has seen an increase in the number of pedal cycles being stolen. Please ensure that you are vigilant and secure your bike at all times as it only takes a second to ride off on an insecure bike. Also ensure that you have recorded the serial number, and as many details as possible about your bike. This is due to the fact that many pedal cycles are recovered by the Police but are unable to be re-united with their owners as they are unable to prove it is their bike.
Bikes and other property can be marked with ultra violet pens as an extra security feature and also other methods of marking such as electronic chipping can be purchased from all good cycles shops. We do have a limited number of ultra violet pens available which can be collected from our street surgery at Farncombe Rail Station on the Last Wednesday of each month between 06:30 and 08:30.

Under age drinking
We are currently targeting youths drinking alcohol underage and those who purchase it on their behalf. I urge you to report all incidents of criminal damage to Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222. If you are aware of young people who are consuming alcohol underage, or of someone purchasing alcohol on their behalf, please report this to Surrey Police or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111

Community Speed Watch - can you help?
Surrey Police is always looking for extra Community Speed Watch volunteers to work with us in tackling anti-social driving and helping to make Surrey's roads safer.

We provide full training, all the equipment – including hand-held speed detection devices – and ongoing support. Volunteers then help in educating motorists regarding speed and raising their awareness of the impact that anti-social driving has on local communities. Around 80 such schemes in the county are already making a real difference in reducing problems caused by anti-social driving.

If you are concerned about speeding vehicles in your area and would like to become involved with Community Speed Watch, or if you know of any friends or neighbours who may be interested, please contact Waverley’s Casualty Reduction Officer, PC Peter Harris on 01483 631625 or e-mail 1767@surrey.pnn.police.uk

Please welcome our new PSCO Felicity Langley
As I am sure you are all aware PCSO Neil Warren has left us to join Surrey Police as a PC and we wish him all the best in his future. We have a new PCSO who started on Monday 2nd August and her name is Felicity Langley. I am sure you will all join me in welcoming her to the area and she is looking forward to meeting you all. She will be sharing her time between Farncombe, Milford and Witley while she is being tutored but will be with us full time in Early September. Please say hello when you see her around.

Since creating this NI we have had no reported damages therefore this NI has now been Filed.

Warmer months: stay vigilant
When going out in the warmer weather, please make sure that valuable items such as sat-navs, ipods and handbags are not left on display in your car. Hide such items from view before leaving your vehicle or ideally keep them with you at all times.

While enjoying the weather in the garden with a BBQ or slaving way chopping back the jungle, please ensure that the front of your property is secure with windows closed or at least secure enough that no-one can reach in and help themselves left to items left lying around.

Ensure any belongings such as gardening equipment and bicycles are securely locked away after use. DIY stores sell shed alarms which are very effective and easy to install. Last year someone tried to break into a properly alarmed shed. The alarm emitted an ear-piercing screech, causing the offender to run away, discarding the tools he was going to use for the break-in.

Identity theft
Identity theft is a huge issue, especially with the amount of financial services etc that can now be applied for online rather than in person. An identity thief needs only a few small pieces of information: name, date of birth, address, National Insurance number and bank/credit card details. Below are a few helpful hints to keep your details safe:

Online security
• Ensure your computer has appropriate security software and firewalls installed
• If you use a shared computer, don't forget to log-off and delete the browsing history each time you finish using it
• Only use recognised websites and be sure that you know who you are dealing with
• If you are not expecting an email with a link attached, do not click on the link. Visit the site in question via your normal method
• Only use secure websites if carrying out transactions. These are shown by either showing 'https' in the address bar or a padlock icon in the browser
• Keep passwords and PIN numbers safe and do not use the same one for different accounts. When selecting a password ensure that it is not one that can be easily guessed - and change them regularly
• If using social networking sites/chat rooms, do not provide too much personal information. Identity thieves can use it to their advantage

Offline security
• Shred any documents containing your personal details before throwing them away, especially bank statements or other financial correspondence
• Make sure you know what date your bills and statements arrive. If one does not turn up on time, contact your supplier to find out why
• If you think your mail is being stolen or you do not receive any for a while, contact Royal Mail as someone may have set up a redirection of your post without your knowledge
• If you move house don't forget to redirect your mail to your new address
• When away on holiday ask someone you trust to pop in regularly and pick up any mail
• Arrange to collect new bank cards and cheque books from the bank rather than having them sent through the post, particularly if you live in shared-access property

Neighbourhood Panel Meetings
The feedback that we have recieved in relation to setting up a panel meeting suggests that a formal meeting is not something the community requires. Therefore we will continue to run our Street Surgeries at this time.

Neighbourhood Panel Meetings
We are still considering the setting up of a Neighbourhood Panel meeting for the area to give local residents and businesses an opportunity to raise any issues or concerns. The meeting will also give us a chance to update you on what we are doing to address issues and concerns in the area. If you feel that this is something that would benefit you or the community, please get in touch. Our contact details are listed above.
