Actions taken on your neighbourhood priorities and general updates
Update: 04/09/2010 09:00:31
You Said… We Did
You said… that speeding motorists were an issue in the Weybourne area.
We responded… by being more visible in the community, being present at varying times of day, carrying out speed enforcement, prosecuting those found committing traffic offences and re-educating others in regard to the speed limit.
You said... that inconsiderate parking was an issue in the roads around Weybourne and Badshot Lea.
We responded... by patrolling the area whenever possible. The Neighbourhood Specialist Officer and PCSO have been moving vehicles on and issuing tickets where appropriate. This will continue - hopefully with the help of Council wardens.
You said... that motorists using their mobile phones while driving in Weybourne and Badshot Lea & Moor Park was an issue.
We responded... by being more visible in the community and by being present at varying times of day. The Neighbourhood Specialist Officer will prosecute those found committing traffic offences in the area.
Court result
The disqualified driver that was arrested and charged on the 17th August has now been to court. He pleaded guilty to both disqual driving and no insurance. I promised to let you know the court result which is as follows. He received a community order and is now required to carry out 120 hours unpaid work. He was also disqualified for a further ten months and was ordered to pay £105 court costs.
Business watch meeting a success
On Thursday 2nd September a meeting was held on the Badshot Lea trading estate. Representatives from all businesses situated on the estate were invited and 22 local business men and women attended. The purpose of the meeting was to establish ways of working together to prevent those attending becoming victims of crime. John Robini the crime reduction advisor attended and gave a talk on crime prevention. The safer neighbourhood team now hopes to work closely with the business representatives to find ways of reducing crime on the estate.
Neighbourhood Support Team
The newly formed Neighbourhood Support Team (NST) have now joined local officers and will be based at Farnham Police Station. The management of Surrey Police are committed to Neighbourhood policing and to support this role the NST has been formed. The purpose of the NST is to work closely with the local officers who through local knowledge are able to identify crime hotspots and local criminals who are active in your neighbourhoods. Once identified the NST will gain intelligence and target these criminals and actively patrol the crime hotspots in an effort to frustrate these criminals, arrest them and put them before the court.
Car seized by neighbourhood officers
On Thursday August 26th PC Heaphy and PCSO Porter were on mobile patrol on the A325 Farnborough Road when they stopped a driver who was not wearing his seat belt.
After carrying out the usual checks on the computer it was established that the driver had no insurance. When questioned the driver eventually admitted having no insurance. He was therefore issued with a fixed penalty notice consisting of a £200 fine and six penalty points on his licence.
His car was also seized and recovered and taken to the car pound. The driver disclaimed his car as he would have to pay £120 to get it back. His vehicle will therefore go to the crusher. Another un-insured car of the streets of Farnham.
Disqualified Driver Arrested
On Tuesday August 17th PC Heaphy and PCSO Porter were on patrol in Weybourne when they observed a driver on his mobile phone. The driver was stopped and gave false details to police who were able to confirm his true identity and establish that the driver, a local man from Ash, was disqualified from driving and was driving with no insurance. He was therefore arrested and his car was seized and recovered.
He was conveyed to Woking custody where he was interviewed and charged with driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance and was bailed to attend Guildford Magistrates Court in September. I will update you all with the result of the court case in due course.
Panel meeting well attended
The Weybourne panel meeting was held on 20th July with 57 local residents attending.
Councillor Janet Maines attended not only as a local resident but also to represent Farnham Town Council.
Waverley Inspector Simon Dann also attended and gave a talk about neighbourhood policing and was available afterwards to answer some questions.
Once again the main concerns raised were traffic related, mainly parking and speeding. I will continue to work on these issues and feed back to you at the next meeting which will be on November 30th.
Thank you to all those who attended to ensure we had another successful meeting.
See you next time.
Cannabis Seizure
After the meeting PCSO Martin Porter and Special Constable Andy Birch observed a suspicious vehicle parked on the grass behind the village hall not far from the marked police car. They spoke to two males in the car and a bag of herbal cannabis was seized from the males.
It is a criminal offence to be in possession of cannabis and I will be dealing with the males who stated that they did not see the car with stripes, sirens and police written all over it.
Forthcoming Neighbourhood Panel Meetings
The next Weybourne Panel meeting will be held in the Village Hall on Tuesday, 30 November from 7.00-9.00pm.
The next Badshot Lea Panel meeting will be held in the Church Hall on Tuesday, 7 September 2010 from 7.00-9.00pm. Inspector Simon Dann will be attending.
I look forward to seeing you all at the meetings so we can discuss any concerns you may have and see how we can help solve any local issues.
Court result
On Tuesday, 13 April 2010 I was on duty in Weybourne when I stopped a driver who was using his mobile phone while driving. I reported him for summons and he elected a full trial. On the 29 June I attended South West Surrey Magistrates Court and gave evidence in the case. I can now report that the driver was found guilty and was ordered to pay a £100 fine, £100 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge. His driving licence was endorsed with three penalty points.
Car Seized
On Wednesday, 16 June 2010 PCSO Martin Porter along with another member of the Farnham Safer Neighbourhood Team, PC Dave Woodrow, stopped an Audi TT in Weybourne. The vehicle was being driven without valid insurance and was therefore seized by Surrey Police. It was impounded and the driver was issued with a ticket for no insurance which includes a £200 fine and her licence was endorsed with six penalty points. The driver is also responsible for paying a fine of approximately £120 pounds to the recovery company before she can get her car back.
Join Community Speed Watch
We know that speeding affects the quality of life in Waverley’s communities.
Surrey Police is currently inviting members of the public to work with us to tackle anti-social drivers and help make Surrey's roads safer by participating in the Community Speed Watch scheme. We provide full training, all the equipment (including hand-held speed detection devices) and ongoing support. Volunteers then help to educate motorists regarding speed and raise their awareness of the impact that anti-social driving has on local communities.
