On the 28th February 2025, an Accelerated Gross Misconduct Hearing took place involving former officer PC Ross Martin, to answer the following allegation:
PC Martin was convicted of misconduct in a public office having plead guilty to one relevant charge at Crown Court on the 3rd February 2025. The conduct that constituted the criminal offence was committed whilst former officer PC Martin was on duty.
This was in relation to incidents that occurred over a two week period in January 2024. Whereby, PC Martin behaved inappropriately towards a vulnerable victim of crime, engaging in multiple phone calls and messages of a sexual nature, clearly taking advantage of the victim’s vulnerabilities.
PC Martin resigned from the force shortly before the hearing took place.
The Chair found that former officer PC Martin’s actions amounted to Gross Misconduct and breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in relation to Discreditable Conduct and had he have still been a serving officer, he would have been dismissed and directed that he should be added to the College of Policing barred list.
