Appeal following attempted armed robbery in West Molesey

27 Jul, 2018 15:25 News Witness Appeals

We are appealing for witnesses following an attempted armed robbery in West Molesey.

We were called to a convenience store in Central Parade, West Molesey at 10.40pm on Thursday July 26, following a report of a man attempting an armed robbery.

The man responsible is believed to have left the shop empty-handed. Officers, including firearms officers, dog units and the police helicopter, searched the area but he has not yet been located. There was an increased police presence in the area overnight for reassurance.

The man police are looking for is described as mixed race, 5ft 7inches tall and of slim build.

Officers do not believe he poses a wider risk to the public, but should not be approached.

Anyone who may have seen a man fitting this description in the immediate area between 10pm and midnight last night is asked to contact Surrey Police immediately using the online reporting system at https://report.police.uk/ or by calling 101, giving reference PR/45180080072.

We are also keen to speak to anyone who may have captured the man on dashcam, helmetcam or CCTV as he made his way to and from the shop on Central Avenue via Molesey Road and Walton Road.

If you suspect you know who the man is, but would rather not give information to the police, you can share information anonymously with the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
