PD Zena followed her nose into the woods in the search for a vulnerable missing woman on Sunday (27 June).
Officers were called to Lion Lane in Haslemere by the South East Coast Ambulance. They reported that a woman they had been treating had run off from them into a nearby wooded area. They were concerned for her safety, as she was deemed not to have mental capacity, and thought she could be at risk of harm.
PD Zena and her handler PC Hunt got to work, and thanks to PD Zena’s nose, the woman was located a short time later wandering barefoot in the woods. She was treated and taken to hospital.
PC Hunt said, “It was raining heavily on the night the vulnerable woman went missing, so we knew her safety was at risk and we needed to find her quickly. I was proud of Zena’s determination to work, and how she used her skills in these difficult conditions to find the woman so we could make sure she received the help she needed.”
