We are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in the upper leg in a road in Caterham earlier today.
The incident happened towards the northern end of Stafford Road, Caterham, at around 1420 this afternoon. Witnesses have described three suspects (described as three men all dressed in dark clothing) as running across gardens towards the Stafford Road Recreation Ground, and then on towards the railway line. It is believed they may have eventually headed for the Ann Summers roundabout.
Police, including armed officers, dog units and the police helicopter, immediately flooded the area to search for the people responsible. Currently a suspected weapon has been seized, but no arrests have been made.
The victim was taken to hospital where his injuries are described as serious, but not life threatening. While officers are keeping an open mind, the attack is believed to have been targeted and there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public from these men.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a group of three men dressed in black in the immediate area between 2pm and 3pm today. We are also keen for anyone who was driving along Stafford Road, or was in the immediate area, to check any dashcam or helmet cameras for footage of the incident or the people responsible.
