A man was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court earlier today (Friday, 9 July) to four years in jail for assault by penetration, sexual assault and voyeurism.
Robert Florin Ilie, 23, was found guilty on 19 June following an incident which took place in Woking on 18 October 2019.
The court heard how Ilie and his friend, Robert Ocnasu, 22, who was jointly charged with assault by penetration and sexual assault and pleaded guilty to both charges on 19 January 2021, went to an address in Woking to meet a girl they had spoken to at a pub earlier that evening.
The victim, a friend of the girl the two men had gone to meet, was in bed asleep when they arrived. Ocnasu went to the bedroom and sexually assaulted her, filming the incident on his mobile phone.
During the assault, Ilie entered the room and took the phone and carried on filming. The victim remained asleep throughout the incident and was not even aware the two men had been at the address.
The video on the phone was subsequently discovered by Surrey Police, who then had to show the footage to the victim.
Ocnasu was sentenced to six years, four months in jail (reduced from eight years, six months because of his guilty plea) for his part in the incident.
Detective Sergeant Stephanie Hearne who was in charge of the investigation, said: “I would like to pay tribute to the victim involved in this case for her bravery throughout the investigation and hope that the sentences handed out to these two men will give her some closure and help her move on with her life.
“The way the two men behaved towards her was vile and simply reprehensible. To violate her in such a way while she was asleep and film the whole thing on a mobile phone is beyond belief.
"Unfortunately, Ilie was sentenced in his absence after he fled to Romania but now that he has been dealt with by the court, steps can be taken to locate and extradite him."
