A Tadworth man was jailed for 32 months for making and possessing indecent images and breaching the conditions of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) when he appeared at Guildford Crown Court yesterday (5 July).
Kieran Matthews, 26, of Waterfield, Tadworth, was made the subject of a 10 year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), effective from 11 June 2018, after being convicted of making indecent images of children at Guildford Crown Court. He was also given a suspended sentence of 10 months, suspended for 24 months.
He had previously been convicted in May 2015 for possession of indecent images of children and extreme pornography.
Matthews was arrested in November 2019 for breaching his SHPO after being in possession of electronic devices that he’d not informed Surrey Police about as per his SHPO.
He was further arrested in May 2020 for a second breach of his SHPO which led to a large number of indecent images of children being found on his mobile phone by the Surrey Police Paedophile Online Investigation Team.
Matthews was arrested at his home address in August 2020 for making indecent images of children and breaching his SHPO.
PC Rob Fletcher from the POLIT team, who investigated the case, said: “Matthews has come to our attention on several occasions for making and possessing indecent images of children and is now behind bars where he belongs.
“Matthews was already the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which prevented him from having a computer or internet access, when it came to light that he was offending again. As the investigation unfolded, we uncovered hundreds of indecent images and footage of children on his mobile phone.
“The sentence given to Matthews demonstrates our commitment to ensuring those who take part in such vile and predatory practices at the expense of innocent children are brought to justice.”
