Cannabis factory found above disused shop in Staines Town Centre
Main article content
We are appealing for witnesses after a Cannabis factory containing approximately 1,000 mature plants was discovered above a shop in Staines Town Centre last week.
Officers arrived at the scene on September 9 to find a fortified steel gate preventing them accessing the second floor. With the help of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service this was cut and when they got upstairs they found multiple rooms filled with Cannabis plants.
A further search revealed a living area with three beds and it is believed that those inside were able to make their escape through the roof that was inaccessible from outside the building. Potential suspects were seen running across the roof towards the iron bridge and were described as speaking with an Eastern European accent.
Key evidence was left behind by those growing the plants and a forensic examination has taken place. All plants have been removed and will be destroyed.
Chief Inspector Dallas McDermott who attended the location with officers from the Spelthorne Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “This is a significant disruption to an organised group of criminals who were getting ready to harvest this substantial crop and the impact will no doubt hit them hard. Our enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their assistance."
