A murder investigation has been launched by Surrey and Sussex’s Major Crime Team following the death of a man in New Haw yesterday evening (4 October).

Officers were called to Heathervale Way in New Haw at around 7:30pm yesterday following reports that a man had been seriously assaulted.

The victim, a 42-year-old man from New Haw, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family are being supported by specially trained officers and wish for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.

Officers investigating the death of a man in New Haw on Monday (4 October have arrested five men on suspicion of murder. Two 18-year-old men from New Haw, a 28 year-old man from New Haw and a 19-year-old man of no fixed address have since been released under investigation. A 31-year-old man from New Haw remains in custody.

The investigation remains ongoing. Officers are still at the scene and a cordon is in place.

Inspector James Wyatt, Borough Commander for Runnymede, said: “We understand that this violent act will have shocked the local community and we would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything possible to establish who is responsible and hold them to account.

“Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area over the next couple of days whilst we carry out our enquiries.

“At this stage of the investigation, we believe that the victim and suspects were known to each other and we don’t believe there to be any risk to the wider public.”
