Witness appeal following assault outside pub in Epsom
Main article content
We are appealing for information after a large fight outside a pub in Epsom in the early hours on Sunday (3 October), left one man unconscious.
The incident took place outside The Station in Epsom around midnight. Officers received reports of around 20 people fighting.
An off-duty police officer tried to intervene and break the fight up and was knocked unconscious.
He was taken to hospital with head injuries.
A 30-year-old man from Carshalton and a 29-year-old man from Morden were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and assault causing grievous bodily harm. They have been interviewed and released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Detective Constable Mike Brunt, who is investigating the incident, said: “Clearly there was a lot going on within various groups of people at the pub that night which escalated and ended up as a large-scale fight. An innocent member of the public and off-duty police officer has tried to intervene to put a stop to it but has been knocked unconscious and left with a possible broken jaw for his trouble. This level of alcohol-fuelled violence simply cannot be condoned in our local communities – people should be able to enjoy a night out without fear of it escalating.
“There is a lot to unravel within this investigation and so I am appealing to anyone who was at the pub that night, or who has any other information, to come forward as soon as possible.”
