We are appealing for witnesses after a number of offences occurred during a gathering at Merrow Downs.

On Sunday, 18 September at around 10:30 pm police were called to Merrow Downs, Guildford after reports that an unplanned gathering of around 100-150 young people was taking place.

During this incident, police received reports of several offences including robbery, assaults, possession of an offensive weapon and sexual assault.

At the time of the incident, two men, aged 22 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of robbery, possession of an offensive weapon, assault actual bodily harm and sexual assault and have since been released under investigation.

Guildford Borough Commander Alick James has said: “We appreciate that this incident may have caused disruption and concern amongst the local community and I would like to reassure you that we carrying out a full and thorough investigation into a number of offences which were alleged to have taken place.”

Detective Constable Pete Coe, who is investigating the matter, said: "This was a large scale gathering which has then escalated into a situation where numerous offences have been alleged. If you were present during this incident, and believe you may have been a victim of a crime, or a witness to offences, then I urge you to come forward to assist the investigation. Likewise, if you are aware of any video or photographic footage of the incident, please contact us and share this with us so we can establish what has happened and ensure that any offenders are brought to justice."
