Over the last four days, we have been dealing with disruption on the M25 after activists have climbed on the gantries. Swift action by police this week has meant a total of 18 activists were arrested in Surrey.

The two people who were arrested yesterday (10 November) have been charged with intentionally/recklessly causing a public nuisance and have been remanded pending a court hearing. They include:

  • Tez Burns (15/05/1988), from Swansea
  • Diane Hekt (28/06/1954), from Kirklees

Of the five people who were arrested on Wednesday (9 November), four have been charged with intentionally/recklessly causing a public nuisance and are due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court today. They include:

  • Isabel Rock (16/12/81), of London;
  • Jesse Prince (11/05/03), from Bristol,
  • Rachel Payne (28/09/51), from Oxfordshire,
  • Niculina Tirpoca (22/06/95), from London.

A 53-year-old woman from Bristol has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The five people who were arrested on Tuesday (8 November) and charged with intentionally/recklessly causing a public nuisance and have appeared in court. They include:

  • Adelhele Russenberger (17/03/91), of London – remanded
  • Andrew Nicholas Dames (28/11/61), of Cambridge – released on bail
  • Michael John Dunk (8/6/54), of Frome, Somerset - remanded
  • Calara O’Callaghan (6/8/03), of Edinburgh – released on bail
  • Jane Touil (8/2/1966), of Rochdale – released on bail

Six people who were arrested on Monday (7 November), have also appeared in court after being charged with intentionally/recklessly causing a public nuisance.

Two people pleaded guilty to intentionally/recklessly causing a public nuisance including:

  • Arne Springorum, 58 (08.03.64), of no fixed address, was arrested at junction 6. She was bailed to appear at Southwark Magistrates' Court for sentencing on Tuesday, 6 December.
  • Anthony Whitehouse, 71 (20.09.51), of West Park Street, Dewsbury, was arrested at junction 6. He was bailed to appear at the same court for sentencing on Wednesday, 30 November.

The following people were remanded in custody (and didn’t enter a plea):

  • Callum Goode, 23 (07.11.99), of Compton, Ashton (Junction 7)
  • Catherine Rennie-Nash, 50 (08.03.72), of Garden Road, Kendal (Junction 11)

The following people were bailed:

  • Anna Retallack, 58 (15.02.64), of Grovehill Crescent, Falmouth (Junction 9)
  • Darcy Mitchell, 47 (06.02.75), of Eight Trees, Staverton, Totnes (Junction 12)

Superintendent Graham Barnett, from Surrey and Sussex Operations Command, said: “Our officers have worked tirelessly over the last four days to deal with what is not peaceful protest but large-scale, co-ordinated, criminality which disrupts the lives of thousands of people trying to go about their daily business.

“Our main concern continues to be the safety of other road users as well as protecting our officers who are climbing gantries to remove them and get the roads running again.  This kind of dangerous activity puts the public at risk, it puts police officers at risk, and it diverts our resources away from tackling other crime in our communities.”

Supt Barnett added: “While we cannot predict where these activists will strike next, we are working closely with our colleagues in other forces, conducting proactive patrols and acting fast on any information that we receive.”
