Detectives investigating a fatal collision in Epsom on 21 May are trying to trace a driver who may have vital information which could assist their enquiries.
Officers would like to speak to the driver of a white Prius that was on South Street between 12.05 and 12.08am on 21 May. They would like to stress that the driver will be treated as a witness to the incident and is not under investigation.
Officers were called to South Street at 12.15am by colleagues from the South East Coast Ambulance Service after a man was found unresponsive in the road.
He is believed to have been involved in a collision with a vehicle which failed to stop at the scene, which took place near the BP garage and ring road just after midnight.
The man, 44-year-old Shane Scannell, sadly died in hospital on 25 May. Our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
T/Detective Inspector Lucy Peacock-Smith, who is investigating the case, said: “We are really keen to speak to the driver of a white Prius who may have some key information which could help to progress our investigation. As stated, you are not in any trouble – we would just like to speak to you and we urge you to come forward as soon as possible.”
If you are the driver, or you have any other information which could help our investigation, including CCTV or dashcam footage of the area at the time, please contact us quoting PR/45230055312 via:
