Back in May 2023, residents of Guildford may have had their evening disturbed by the sound of NPAS flying over.
Shortly after 9pm on Monday, 1 May 2023, officers from our Vanguard Road Safety Team flagged for Luiz Oliveira, 26, DOB 4/12/1996 to stop for them having witnessed him nearly fall from his motorbike, causing them to think he may be driving under the influence of drink or drugs. Oliveira failed to comply and instead fled the scene at highspeed, triggering a pursuit along the A3.
With the assistance of NPAS, Oliveira was seen to stop down a residential road and walk away from his bike. Officers caught up with him and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He tested negative for drink and drugs.
Oliveira pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle without a licence and using a motor vehicle on a road without insurance on 18th July and was sentenced on Thursday (26 September) at Guildford Crown court to eight months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months and disqualified from driving for 18 months until he has passed an extended test.
PC Talbut-Smith from the Vanguard Road Safety Team, said: “Two of the ‘Fatal 5’ offences are speeding and dangerous driving, these are offences officers from the Vanguard Road Safety Team aim to tackle to help reduce the number of people who are killed or seriously injured on Surrey roads. If you are willing to drive dangerously, chances are we will catch you”
