Two drug dealers have been sentenced to a combined total of 10 years and 3 months imprisonment and given Slavery and Trafficking Prevention order for drug offences.
Investigation work by Surrey and Sussex Centurion Team identified a line that was operating in Redhill and Merstham. On Thursday 22 December, Police arrested Darnell Smith and Tayla Edwards outside of an address in London. Both were arrested on suspicion of being concerned with the supply of Class A drugs. A warrant was conducted on Darnell’s home address and multiple wraps of class A drugs were found as well as the phone belonging to the line.
Both were charged with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, and two counts of arranging or facilitating the travel of another with a view to exploitation.
Smith pleaded guilty at court. Edwards pleaded not guilty and went to trial in September 2023, she was later found guilty by a Jury. They were sentenced on 14 September 2023 at Guildford Crown Court.
Darnell Smith, 10/07/1998 was sentenced to 6 years and 9 months imprisonment for being concern being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, namely crack cocaine, heroin, and cocaine and two counts of arranging or facilitating the travel of another with a view to exploitation. He was also given a Slavery and Trafficking prevention order.
Tayla Edwards 23/05/1999 was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months imprisonment for being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, namely crack cocaine, heroin, and cocaine and two counts of arranging or facilitating the travel of another with a view to exploitation. She was also given a Slavery and Trafficking prevention order.
Inspector Alex Maguire, Borough Commander for Reigate and Banstead, said ‘Illegal drugs have a devastating impact on our communities, thanks to the dedication and hard work of the officers investigating this we have been able to take put two more dealers behind bars.
