We’re appealing for witnesses after the body of a man was found in the River Mole in Box Hill yesterday afternoon (7 September).
Emergency services attended the scene at around 12.15pm following a call from a member of the public.
Sadly, the body of a 60-year-old man was recovered from the river. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
Although we do not currently believe that his death is suspicious, we are continuing to carry out enquiries to understand the circumstances around his death.
We believe that the man had been fishing close to the Stepping Stones area prior to his death.
We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area, or driving through and has dashcam footage, between the hours of 8am and 1pm yesterday on the A24, London Road.
In particular, we are looking to speak to a man who was in the area and may have information which could help our enquiries. He is described as around 30-years-old, White, approximately 5ft 10in in height, of slim build with very short dark hair. He wasn’t wearing a top but was wearing dark coloured shorts, trainers and was carrying a dark coloured rucksack with a red fishing rod tied to it. The man was also riding a dark coloured mountain bike and spoke with an accent, possibly Eastern European.
If you recognise the description of the man, or have any other information which could help our enquiries, please contact us quoting PR/45230100596 via:
