Surrey Police commenced a move to Wray Park from their former divisional headquarters at Reigate Police Station earlier this week (Monday 8 April 2024).
The move follows the discovery of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) within the construction of Reigate Police Station in September 2023, and an interim base for operational activity was identified at St David’s House Wray Park for around 18–24 months, whilst the Force considers longer term plans for delivering police services to the Borough and wider Eastern Division which also includes the Tandridge, Epsom & Ewell, and Mole Valley areas.
Surrey Police’s Eastern Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Graham Barnett said: “We are very grateful to Surrey County Council’s Land & Property service and Surrey Fire and Rescue Services for offering us temporary use of the vacant building at Wray Park. We are committed to providing a policing presence in the Borough and this prime location, not far from our former Reigate base, enables us to continue to support the residents of East Surrey with the excellent police service they have come to expect.
“While this is a temporary base for us, we also see this as an opportunity, bringing the three emergency services together in one location to enable closer collaborative working with our blue-light partners.”
Surrey Fire & Rescue Services Chief Fire Officer, Dan Quin said: “We are pleased to be able to assist our Surrey Police colleagues in this relocation. We hope this collaboration will build upon our partnership and most importantly ensure the continuity of essential services.”
SECAmb, Operating Unit Manager, Jo Crerar said: “"Our Trust has a number of sites across the region that act as ambulance community response posts. These posts provide a place for our responding clinicians to use when between answering 999 calls or when they are on a break. We are pleased to continue our collaborative working with Surrey Fire and Rescue Services with the use of the site at Wray Park and now with this announcement, our Surrey Police colleagues."
Surrey Police commenced their relocation from Reigate Police Station on Monday (8 April). Their public-facing, front-counter service will remain at Caterham Police Station for this time as there are no suitable locations for this service at Wray Park.
