Shoplifter sentenced after beauty product theft in Cobham

We know the detrimental impact shoplifting can have on businesses, and one of our priorities is to work alongside owners and shop staff to identify and prosecute thieves.
Last week, a shoplifter was jailed for two months and ordered to pay costs after being caught in the act stealing from Boots in Cobham.
Robert Keegan, 39, (DOB 28.12.84) from Purley, pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage, one count of theft from a shop, and breach of his Community Penalty Notice (CPN).
Keegan was spotted in Boots on the High Street in Cobham on the afternoon of 17 August, helping himself to beauty products before exiting without paying. Staff alerted police and gave a description of the offender and his direction of travel.
A nearby officer quickly located Keegan walking along Mill Road carrying two full carrier bags. Keegan ignored the officer’s request for him to stop and tried to hide one of the shopping bags in the bushes.
The bag was recovered and found to contain a large quantity of stolen items.
Keegan was arrested and charged and was sentenced on October 8.
