Man sentenced to over three years in prison for causing serious injury by dangerous driving

A man from Shepperton has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Guildford Crown Court. He was also disqualified from driving for 9 years and 2 months.

Luke Young, 34, dob 14/08/1990, of Acacia Avenue in Shepperton, was sentenced on Wednesday 30 October for causing serious injuries to another driver in July of last year.  

The collision occurred in the early hours of 15 July on Balfour Road in Weybridge after Young, who was already disqualified from driving, failed to stop for police when indicated to. This triggered a police pursuit and as Young was trying to evade police, he drove erratically and at speed and collided with another vehicle, causing serious facial injuries to the other driver which needed surgery.

Young then tried to flee the scene but was apprehended by officers and arrested. Further forensic investigations then definitely determined he was the driver at the time of the collision.

DS Ben Grilli, said; “Luke Young had no regard or thought for the consequences of his dangerous driving on that fateful day in July and as such a man suffered serious injuries through no fault of his own. Most road traffic collisions are entirely preventable and especially so in this case. If you drive dangerously in Surrey you are putting other people’s lives at risk and we will bring you to justice where we can.

 

“We are pleased he will now spend over three years in prison to think about his actions and will not able to cause disruption to the lives of anyone else.”
