A man has been jailed after leaving a motorcyclist with serious injuries following a collision in Stanwell. Officers were called to Stanwell Moor Road shortly after 7am on Wednesday, 3 July following reports of a collision involving the driver of a car and the rider of a motorcycle. From witness dashcam footage, the driver of the car was seen overtaking a van and then continuing in the wrong lane for around 20 seconds, driving into a blind right-hand bend on the wrong side of the carriageway and colliding with the motorcycle rider, who was travelling from the opposite direction. The rider, a man in his 20s, was thrown into the air and over a fence, sustaining serious, life-changing injuries. The driver of the car initially attempted to walk away but was detained at the scene by witnesses until police arrived. Ardit Shehi, 35 (07/07/1988), of Hillingdon Road, Uxbridge, was charged and remanded for causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance. He was sentenced yesterday (3 December) at Guildford Crown Court to 40 months (three years and four months) imprisonment and disqualified from driving for nine years and eight months. Investigating officer DC Matt Lloyd from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, “Choosing to carry out dangerous manoeuvres like Shehi did here put not only himself, but all other innocent road users at risk, with truly devastating repercussions for the victim, who sustained serious injuries that will require care for the rest of his life. “This tragic case had an entirely avoidable outcome, and I urge all motorists to think before you act when travelling on our roads. The family of the injured man also wanted to extend their thanks to everyone who assisted him after the collision, including members of the public, ambulance and police. "I hope that Shehi spends his time behind bars reflecting on the consequences of his actions.” |
