Notice of Misconduct Hearing

ALLEGATIONS

On September 2nd 2024 whilst off duty, PC Murphy instigated and engaged in an inappropriate telephone conversation with a male, whom he knew or suspected to be vulnerable and to have a sexual interest in children. Former PC Murphy failed to take any necessary safeguarding steps to protect the public nor did he otherwise report the incident.

These matters are allegedly in breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in relation to:

• Discreditable Conduct; Police officers behave in a manner which does not discredit the police service or undermine public confidence in it; whether on or off duty.
• Duties and Responsibilities: Police officers are diligent in the exercise of their duties and responsibilities. Police officers have a responsibility to give appropriate cooperation during investigations, inquiries and formal proceedings, participating openly and professionally in line with the expectations of a police officer identified as a witness.

If proven, the above matters jointly and seperately amount to gross misconduct.
