This policy describes how Police Support Volunteers are engaged and deployed across Surrey Police and Sussex Police.

This policy and supporting procedures detail the checks to be made within routine policing encounters when dealing with a person known or suspected to be involved in criminality who cannot be confirmed as a British citizen at birth. This is the definition of a Foreign National Offender taken from College of Policing International Authorised Professional Practice (APP)

Non-crime hate incident recording was introduced following the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry, in which Sir William Macpherson recommended that the following should be used as the universal definition of a racist incident: “A racist incident is any incident that is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person.”

This policy details the Job Related Fitness Test (JRFT), implemented by Surrey Police and Sussex Police for all police officers, Special Constables, specialist posts and newly recruited Police Community Support Officers and includes the fitness levels required and the Job Related Alternative (JRAFT) fitness levels. The procedures detail the support available to individuals in order to achieve and maintain the minimum standard required of them.

An absconder from prison may be any person who: a. has been remanded in custody pending trial and has absconded; or b. has been convicted and sentenced to a term of imprisonment following a trial or guilty plea and absconded. or c. has been released on temporary license (ROTL) whilst serving a custodial sentence and has absconded.

Surrey Police will comply with the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA) and any subsequent amendments, this includes the Mental Health Act 1983 Places of Safety Regulations 2017. Surrey Police will also work in accordance with, College of Policing Approved Professional Practice for Mental Health when using the power of S135 of the MHA. The below should be read in conjunction with these documents.

This policy articulates the principles by which Surrey Police and Sussex Police will discharge its functions in relation to the management of intelligence information which is crucial to providing a quality service to the public, partner agencies, other police forces and law enforcement agencies.

Persons detained by the police are entitled to the same standard of medical care as any other member of the public and should not suffer any detriment as a consequence of their detention.

The purpose of this document is to detail the policy in relation to naming officers or staff who have been dismissed from Surrey Police after investigation by Professional Standards.
